A hair over $3k. about $600 of that was finishing up body work on the hood that I got too exhausted and fed up to do. There's some noticable orangepeel in some areas, but nothing that a few hours of detail work can't fix. Overall I'm very happy with the RIGHT color, i just wish the whole car was the RIGHT color. But overall, I really dig the color. I was just hoping to get some photos with the grey over all the car, it does fantastic things under a flash.

just curious, but does it matter if the parts that were painted were laying flat,or,say for instance,a fender painted laying flat, but looks odd when looked at in the "mounted" position?

Damn that looks good! I'm pretty set that once I'm finished with college and get tired of the supra, my next project car is going to be a Z. They're just so damn beautiful.

eh... for that much i would expect it to be a 99% match.... hell, i expect an $800 job to match.... i would demand that it be fixed and done right the first time.

If you don't fix it somehow, it'll be all you see in every picture you'll ever take of it. I know... trust me, I know... :(

I'd definitely do something to get it fixed, like Keros said if you don't get it fixed that's all you'll ever see. My dad had his 78 camaro painted sunset tangelo pearl and the guy did the same thing. He painted the fenders, hood, and car at different times and it looked like hell. I know depending on the gun, the nozzels not always the same either, and my dads was dark orange on one fender and light orange on the hood. And just like you're you, his car looked freakin great in pictures and from 15 ft away, but a close up, or a couple good minutes of looking at it, and it was all I could stare at. Go have another painter give you an opinion and take that to your guy. Maybe he'd be more considerate if there was an actual professional opinion.

Like SB and IJ said... IT is a MUST... the final several color coats must be sprayed continious with the car assembled. You should not have any pieces sprayed seperatly, not even when spraying all at the same time. the only parts ever to be sprayed seperatly would be inside the doors, under the hood, inside the hatch, frame, or iside of body parts. He does not have to redo the entire job, just re-spay the outside with color then re-clear. He may or may not need to remove the existing clear to do this. Depends on what clear was used and if the thinner for the color will lift it or not.

I like that color, gonna be very sharp car. Just as a side note, I took my 88 Supra into a body shop, we went over what I like and what I dont like and what I want fixed. Basically, the quote comes in at about 2500 for my repairs (and thats "almost" painting the entire car again), but he told me, as a warning, if I want to put my car in a show... his quote starts at 3k... then he adds on top. Solely because thier experience is that you rarely get it 100% on the first try.

could be that they dont have high skill mind you. In the end... I wont use that shop solely because of that discussion.

rofl.. I just noticed Speeds sig pic... I love it!

Yes, in a metallic paint, it does, because the metal flakes will "lay" (for lack of a better term) differently, resulting in a different shade. At least, that's my understanding of it, anyway.

Correct. Consider it like a wood grain. If pieces are sprayed at different angles, the light will refract off of them differently, creating slightly different shades when you look at it.

The car must be sprayed all at once, with all of the pieces installed to get an even application of metal flake. The way they did it, by spraying small pieces first, would work for a normal paint, but not a metal flake.

DING DING DING DING DING! This is very correct and any painter thats been doing it for years or one with enough sense to know would know this.

can't paint metallics in uneven sections but it also has alot to do with how they hung everything. can't get an even color if you paint
IE: ^^^^^ then the other part hanging >>>>>
so ^^^^>>>>> would be the shade difference when all it is, is the reflection difference due to the metallic
it wont match at all hence the difference.
