I have a 88 Supra turbo, and the past week it has been overheating pretty bad about 5 minutes after it hits normal operating temp. I changed the thermostat today, and the same problem keeps happening. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Have you checked all your hoses? Make sure none of them are ripped or tore or popped. Also make sure your clamps are down good. Also check to see if your radiator cap is still working properly.

Do this, Then, Check for codes via tsrm.

After doing so check your oil for any milky residue.

Are you getting any coolant into your overflow thing?

Dumb question do you have coolant in it? are you positive it overheating? Possible air bubble. Pull radiator cap and start car if it shoots a stream you have bhg, time for rebuild. Are you losing any coolant on the ground if so find the source and repair. If bhg is suspect do compression test, also look for coolant in cylinders, block tester, leakdown test. Is there any smoke/steam form exhaust when started?

With it overheating in 5 mins i would say air pocket from not being purged, bad sensor for gauge, or bhg.

All the hoses are good. The head gasket was replaced 10,000 miles ago, and it doesnt do it all the time. It will be running fine, and when im just coasting in neutral it will jump and stay hot for a while. Would It be a good idea to flush the radiator, to check for air and air pocket?

Hmm, when my car bhg'd it never shot coolant out the radiator cap....

Flush your system mk3supra88. If it continues to over heat randomly do a compression test on the cylinders.

I had ran into a couple severe bhg that would push say 120psi+ of pressure right into coolant passage looks like old faithful lol. You say it only happens sometimes, at idle high rpm when? you may have a water pump that can be giving out also? or a belt that is sleeping under high rpms? just a thought
