Overheating when I get off the highway!!

Hey guys,
I travel from Orlando to Tampa and back every weekend and every time I get off the exit ramp, the engine starts to overheat immediately and I have to pull over and shut it off. But then after letting it cool down for 20 minutes, I am able to drive off and it wont overheat again. During the week, I drive it around for 20-30 minutes at a time and sometimes for an hour because of traffic but the engine never overheats; only when I am on the highway for an extended period of time. I already have plenty of coolant and I just got a new fan that is around 10 inches in diameter. Do I need another fan or is something else wrong here? Any help would be appreciated.

I also have a problem with my battery. The car starts up every time but the battery will die randomly when I am driving, sometimes 2 or 3 times in a short drive. Last night I was playing music and on the head unit it said D/C. I was also running my a/c and it died several times and almost didnt start up again. I just purchased a new terminal today and the connection is good so I think the battery is done but I wanted to know what you guys think. Thanks again

I have a GTE and I dont have the stock fan, I have one from autozone that runs from a relay that turns on at 185 degrees. It is running strong. I dont have a thermostat and my radiator is less than 6 months old. I recently changed the upper radiator hose because air was leaking in to it and I thought it was getting in to the cooling system which would make it overheat but I was wrong..

And its just the stock temp gauge with an aftermarket front mount innercooler. Its not that big but I never had problems overheating with it before.

That's why I asked about your cooling mods.

Put the stock one on. You don't loose as much HP as you think. If 1000HP cars run the fan clutch, you can without any issues. You MIGHT loose 1HP.

Do you hear a waterfall noise coming from behind the stereo when you first start you car? Did your new rad come with a new cap? Order a fan clutch and fan off rockauto.com, I myself purchased one very inexpensive and I've had trouble free cooling for the last 20,000 miles. As for the intermittent electrical issue, i would say terminals i know you replaced one but replace the other just to be sure. Also how old is your battery? before you toss it, pull the caps off the top and check the fluid level, if low, fill with De-ionized water

No. You'll need to fix everything you've deliberately screwed up on the car and also fix what's broken on it's own.

He's 100% percent right though....

It has been proven and discussed over and over about the clutch fan vs. an electric fan. Simple put no electric fan can put out more cfm of air, in the same amount of space, as the mechanical fan/clutch setup period.

No thermostat? Why? They are there for a reason.

When I try to solve a problem I want an answer that is PROVEN correct. Therefore I would recommend making your cooling system as stock as possible, test the results, and let us know your findings.

As for the electrical issue, get the cooling system taken care of first. Fixing two problems at once in two different systems in a car is more work than just fixing them separately. (In my experience)

Even though this is from a Honda site, the same principles might help you find your problem.

Good luck!

As for your battery. If you vehicle is shutting off wile running thats an Altantor issue not a battery. Once a vehicle is running your Alt. runs the electriacl not the battery. Battery is only for starts and reserve. If you have a seriously upgraded sound system your probably pulling more the your alt. can produce.

Hint: You obviously have a dodgy electical system if it's killing a battery while driving, and you have cheap autozone e-fans on the car...

I think the issues are pretty cut and dry, and JJ was spot on.
