ok i have an 1986 n/a auto supra, i replace the head gasket on it because it overheated. the car still overheats but only when im at a stop light. i have tried replacing the clutch fan but it still over heats i also bought a new thermotstat. i checked for my headgasket not sealing properly by checking for exhaust gases in my cooland and there is not oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil, no smoke etheir. my next step is to replace the radiator becasue i think is clooged any suggestions?? thanks in advance

You purge the air out completely? Fill overflow tank half way, check rad cap, no bubbling in rad, did you cut jiggle valve off themostat? Let it warm and see if one hose from rad is cold?

Clean out the radiator is step one

Then make sure there isn't leafs and such blocking the air flow infront if it and the A/C.

And before some one asks you have your fan shroud in place correct.

The hole that is left will allow a small amount of flow at all times through the radiator. Prevents back pressure that can hold a T-stat closed and helps rid the system of air quickly. The T-stat should be the stock 190 deg F temp rating...the cap should be the stock pressure rating.

If you see air bubbles in the coolant reservoir with the cap installed, that is a problem.

If you replace the radiator, get a larger dual core like a CSF, Koyo, etc.

- When it overheats at a stop, what exactly does the temp gauge do and at what rate?
- Is the AC on when it does this, or does it do it both with the AC on or off?
- Does the aux and condensor fans come on when the temp increases at a stop?
- Any coolant overflow from the bottle?
- Are you using a 50/50 mix of coolant to water?

but i think i have found the problem i when to replace my t- stat anf it turns out it was backwards(god i hate previous owners) im gonna drive it today to see if it overheats. thanks for all your help ill see what happends
