The car is a turbo has a fresh rebuild from the block up and was running great was off the road for 6 months now i start up it runs great but after 2 mins of having the car running the temp guage goes past the red. But the car isnt actually overheating everything is really running at normal temp. I can run the car for hours and it wont over heat but the guage never changes. Ive tried everything.

I had this once before it was a dud ground on the back of the Cluster.

Can you elaborate on this or tell me what that means exactly? what is the "cluster" . I guess you can call me a tiny bit slow...

doesnt make since though... if you have a short to ground at cluster or wiring, the gauge should go above red when you turn the key over. may just be a bad sensor, but 1stcar said they tried everything.

It could either be bad wiring at the gauge cluster like IJ said, bad wiring at the sensor (on the t-stat housing, which is common), or you could have what I had which is a lot less common but possible.

Mine ended up being dead solder joints on the gauge itself. I pulled the cluster, heated up the solder on the gauge to remelt it, put it back together, and haven't had a problem since. It reads 2 ticks higher than it used to, but that's my fault for putting the needle back in the wrong spot.
