Hey guys. I'm planning to buy some seats for my car when my income tax return arrives but I'm on a budget. Sparco, corbeau, recaro and bride seats are just out my price range for front seats so I been looking up some alternatives since my front seats are ripped apart.

At first I wanted to restore my seats but my estimate on the seats would be around $700 to restore them and that is just too much money. I uploaded pictures of my front seats so you guys can take a look at them. When I bought the car they were ripped badly and gotten worse over time. I love the factory seats and they look great when the top is off but my budget is around 300, 400 dollars tops. So I did some searching and found some Otto-R seats here is a link

http://www.procarparts.com/product_...=1575&osCsid=ae574e39e16cbd6c0039168028dddd5d

They come with sliders and all for installation and I can find them on ebay for a cheaper price as well. I did some more digging and found these OMZ seats on hyperperformance.

http://www.shophyperformance.com/cgi-bin/hp/001424.html

They also are in my budget and I wouldn't have to pay extra for sliders. But my question is mainly are these seats any good? Does anyone have personal experience with these seats? Are they safe? Do they last? Are they comfortable? Would they fit "correctly" into an MK3? Does anyone have any installed pics of either seats? Doesn't have to be in a supra at all.

Between the two I been leaning more towards the OMZ since at the bottom they "claim" to have safety and quality as a design point but anyone can lie to make sales. So thats why I cam to ask you guys.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Also if there are better seats within my budget that I have overlooked please inform me. Or if anyone lives in the NY/NJ area that know a place that can restore my seats withing my budget price. I would appreciate that as well.

And also, I tried looking for the recaro mk3 seats from the jdm spec supra but the price is almost too much for seats that are in pretty beat up condition and shipping on it is usually insane :(.

Damn man did you get hungry?? Those seats are messed up. The bomz look nice but for that price i personally would worry about the durability of the welds on the brackets and construction of the levers. You can find some really crappy stuff out there so be carefull the last thing you want is for your seat to break loose wile driving.

Cheap seats = breaks in an accident

Don't do it, get your seats redone, or swap them with cloth seats from a salvage yard or part out...

Makes it sound like the first thing he's gonna do after he gets his seats is get in an accident :biglaugh:

Let him be as in the seats he wants =P.

If i was u i'd get the lighter grey ones if i had grey interior & the darker grey seats if i had shadow grey or black interior.

IMHO

I've checked junk yards, if I find any leather they won;t be grey and if they were they would be ripped like mine. Heck even the non grey leather are ripped. Cloth interior I haven't found any grey cloth as of yet in the NY/NJ/CT/MA area. I found other color cloth interior but they were equally in bad shape.

And I didn't get hungry when I bought the car the seats were already ripped lol. The flaws the car has now is the ones it had at purchase which is what I'm going to try to iron out by the summer.

The general idea is low price = cheap product which is why I opened a thread to see if anyone personally tried them out and had any ideas on them. Low price doesn't always mean cheap product, but tend to be. I just read on what the product manufactur promises and seems good but I becomes skeptical on things like that. Just watned to see what most of you guys think before I actually go out and take out my factory seats.

I read up on the otto-r on an rx-7 forum and although it was a short thread, like two people said for the price it was good seats but they lacked installed pics and stuff. I still lean towards bomz if I even purchase any at all.

If the seat is an accident hazard, does it matter if it breaks in an accident tomorrow or 2 years from now?

^^ yea I seen those, they have a buy it now price of like 600 dollars without shipping. Those auctions always have mystery bidders to jack up the price until it gets to the buy now price. =\

Well then put cheap chinese racing seats in your 3700 pound car, and please don't hit anything.

Have you seen the great MKIII's on this board?
They saved and spent the money to do things right, as I suggest you do.

I had a friend with a '91 with factory shadow grey that was near perfect shape. He painted all the door panels blue and stuck MKIV off color seats in his MKIII. He regrets screwing up his interior.

Do it right or skip it. Save save save!

:) Good luck to you.

I have a friend whos had cheap racing seats in 2 cars hes wrecked(both not his fault) and he never got hurt. And they never broke.. As long as theyre mounted correctly and securely theyll be fine. You're held in by the seat belts anyways.
If you dont feel safe put some 4 pt harnesses in and mount the CORRECTLY to the floor with BIG washers not bolted to the seat.

Cheap performance seating will not be both safe and comfortable. I'm looking towards buckets from summit to shed some weight and to use secure 5 point harnesses. If I want comfort, I wont go in the supra. I'll go in the daily. If I am looking to have some fun, I'll take the supra.

I seen another supra at a meet who spray painted his interior. I told him it was unique but I defiantly wasn't feeling it at all. It looked tacky and ruined the look for the sake of trying to be different. I would never do such a thing to my car supra or not.

Luckily for me a set of used seat covers just came up on ebay recently and I'm going to keep an eye on them. They are custom for the mk3 and its black and Grey so its pretty up my alley on what I'm looking for.

Here are pics from his auction. They are used and sold as it. Just the covers no seats.

The picture clarity isn't that great and I can't tell if the seats covers are dirty or not but there is no signs of rips, tears or anything.

Just for the record I was in a head on crash at 35 in the passanger seat. I was in an otto-r. The drive was in a sparco. The otto-r twisted less than the sparco. The majority of the impact was on my side of the vehicle, 2002 WRX. The sliders on the srarco actually came out of track!!. My personal experience.

^ Why use two different seats? Maybe during installation one guy bolted on the left seat while another bolted the right and the one on the left did a crappy job. I'm not trying to say your story isn't credible but so many people would say otherwise. Yet at the same time, how many of those people actually were IN an accident to really say otherwise?

True racing seats ARE supposed to flex a bit to protect you. If they don't flex, they will break.

A break could be instant death as well, so get FIA approved seats if you can afford it, if not, stock is fine.
