To start off, yes, I searched, not saying that I didn't miss something however.

Anyway, I got my '87 turbo supra about 2 months ago, and I basically have NO history on the car. It has 180,000 miles on it, and I'm wondering if it has the original engine in there. Is there any way I can tell if a previous owner did a replacement? The guy I bought it from told me it has a metal HG and ARP studs, but thats all I know.

35 views and no ideas? I was thinking that there might be a block number I could check against the year and production location or something, but I honestly have no idea.

Simple.

Just look for any "Re-engineering Mods"...

You know, take it apart, and put it back together still with a box full of bolts leftover. :biglaugh:

No, I've never noticed anything but the big stamped "7M" on the side of the block, as well as a few other misc. things... But nothing that would match up to the chassis or would be able to verify it was the original motor.

You will be able to identify the yr. of the block and see if it matches the car,
but thats about it. Its not like American muscle cars where you can check for matching #s of engine, trans, body trim etc. Although I could not find it someone here posted how to check block #s for year of production.

I went to a local dealer and asked for a vehicle inquiry report (using the VIN) which shows all the information that was on the vehicles original window sticker and the serial number for the motor. I am not sure where the number for the motor is located on the block but i would bet i could find it on there somewhere.

for example here is my engine # - 7m000525870

hope this helps
