Optimal Dimensions for an 1jz Air Filter?

I was looking for a replacement filter for my 1jz. I have a crappy paper one right now. On my na supra i had the one from a K& N kit, but i just need a filter. I found there catalog and there are a ton of filters there. http://www.knfilters.com/search/univcone.aspx
Anyone have an idea of the perfect dimensions for a 1jz? Thanks!

Also, does anyone know of a reputable blue colored filter? I found a really a cool one in a picture of a 1jz bay, but i don't know what manufacturer made it. Otherwise i will stick with k&N. also, does Apexi make better filters?

what? paper filters are the best, filtration wise. besides you dont really get much of a gain from an intake upgrade. but if you want one i got one from big arron.

Optimal? Infinite surface area would be the best.

Practical? The largest filter that fills your space requirements and is pleasing to the eye.

My 1j came with an oldschool Greddy Airinix intake, alot of flow but poor filtration. I switched to the K&N fipk for the 7m for the heck of it and I could swear it feels slower. The K&N definitely has less surface area though so who knows.

I think the blitz sus filter has the most flow, because it is all metal and it sounds bitchin', but it probably doesn't filter that great. Who cares anyways because 1j's don't have airflow meters that would be destroyed from this!:naughty: at least it sounds good!!!!!!!

who care about a damn filter, it doesnt do much for a turbo car anyways, hell dont even run a filter :)

The filter can adversely affect many components in your engine, including your oil. It might look cool to put that screen mesh over the turbo with a t-bolt clamp or something, but it certainly is shortening your engine life span.

agreed on the no filter part, but on the subject of which filter is best, on a force induction motor, I highly doubt 1-2 rwhp is anything to even bother with. Just use something that'll help u prevent debris from killing your motor and call it a day.

I still have the hardest time understanding how the Apexi is a zero maintenance filter. Anyone else have views on their power filter?

well according to what i have learned, "lifetime use" is roughly 150k miles. as for the "zero maintenance". i think just b/c its a dy mesh filter it doesnt require the wash and re-oil such as a "wet mesh". i had a dry mesh filter, it didnt seem to get visibly dirty. i just washed it anyway. with some dawn soap, let it sit in a bucket then rinse it out, let it air dry. some ppl i have known liked to just blow them out with an air hose. that seems like it would displace the mesh material and cause less uniformity. thats how i understand "zero maintenace, lifetime use"
