ok, so my next major upgrade is getting tires on my MKIV TT rims. for those of you who dont know, they're 17x8 front, 17x9.5 rear.

now, i'm lowered on eibachs and koni yellows as of right now, but eventually will be upgrading to Tein SS coilovers. i'm looking for supra owner's opinions on what tires they've had best of luck with on the MKIV rims. (or a rim of the approximate same size;))

here's my driving style:

i cruise alot. comfort is not an issue, because if i'm in my car, i'm comfy. ;) i have a very, very heavy foot. i need traction, as the upgrade after tires is a bigger turbo. i love accelerating from a dead dig. (so i'll need something that's going to hook up)

i also love the twisties. i love taking corners, backroads, etc... so they've gotta have good straight line grip, as well as cornering performance.

traction in the rain is not an issue, as i DONT drive the car in the rain.

treadwear isnt TOO much of an issue. i dont intend on burning out with these tires, or putting on smoke shows. i want them to last, but only as long as the treadwear states that they'll last. (i'm not looking for something that i'm going to get years of use from)

i want something wide. (i know, it really shouldnt matter) BUT, i LOVE the look of a wide tire from the rear of the car. so probably something WIDE, but not quite wide enough to have the fenders rolled. ;)

price really isnt an issue either, unless i'm only going to get 10,000 miles off of a tire that costs $200+ each. ;)

i've done some snooping around, but i want your opinions. thanks, and fire away!

How about some Falken 275/45/17 in the back and 245/45/17 in the front? Depending on the model should be pretty grippy and about $150 a piece, maybe less if you really looked around. Mileage should be somewhere between 30,000 and 40,000. Or you could always go with some Kumho Supra tires(cool cus they say supra right on the side). Well goodluck.

how about the BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KD in a 275/40 ?

i just got two 255/50 g-Force Sports, thats the widest tire you can get on the stock 5stars. the gForce Sports are great, completely eliminated my wheel hop, i had yokohama es something or other 245/45s on the rear, they wouldnt hook at all in first and spun throughout second and i had some serious wheel hop, the tires were pretty worn when i got them so i dont know how they performed when new. i like the gForce sports so far, road noise is not bad and they hook pretty well though i sill spin through second, but no more wheel hop.

if i could have i would have gone with a lower profile but they didnt have any with that width. with your TT rims youll have a lot more options.

I have the Yokohama Advan A032r's on my car... 275 in the rear 245 in the fronts.
I have drivien a lot on this one set and used to have it on my other Supra and now I m using it on my current one.

Traction problem??? ZERO

Its a tire that HOOKS really really good.
I have a really hard time trying to do burnouts with this, thats how grippy they are.

I tested this in the rain ..yes I do drive my Supra in the rain...and the car stays put. Very hard for me to brak loose..and yes I have tried pushing this tire to its limit.

Tread wear is excellent. Like I said, I used this same set of wheel on my first car and they are still in great condition.

Negative?? I bit of road noise as compared to a normal everyday tire..

Overall: Excellent.

Its easy to loose traction on Kumhos:

The Falkens are gripper. I havd had exoperience with both

You can fit up to a 285/40/17 on the back, but I think it is a little bit harder to find a tire manufacturer that will make it in that size. For the front, I'm lowered on Tokicos and running a 245/45/17...and I have rubbing issues due to the overall diameter, not the width.

I would recommend sticking with something 275/40/17 in the rear...it only makes it about .8" larger in overall diameter and a 245/40/17 keeps the front an overall diameter pretty close to stock to help keep you away from rubbing the tops of your fenderwells.

good info guys! the tires i had in mind were either falken azeni sports, or 615's. i'll be looking up all the ones you've suggested, and comparing them. i havent decided if i'm getting my rear fenders rolled or not, but if i do, i might go with a 295 out back. :) not quite sure yet...

thanks!

Before you buy take everyones suggestions and go to Tirerack.com and read the reviews of the many people who have the tires they suggest, and see what they have to say long term. I did this and ended up buying Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3. As far as tires go I feel these are the best I've ever head and I have had a few sets of tires on many cars in my time.
