it wasn't that cut and dry,

Top guy went through 6 engines before he got it "right", but yet with a stand alone and a gpod tune it would have been right from the start.

he makes a damn good point i'd rather stay with 1 engine than waste 5 the other 5 coulda been used for more mkiii's or mkii's to keep the supra name superior

ok. i didn't think about this but what were the causes of his engine failures? if the first five were due to running lean and burning holes throught the pistons then i can see how it was EMS related. but rod knocks and main bearing failures cannot be caused by piggybacks? just burning rings & holy pistons. hah! now whatcha gotta say 'bout dat!

Actually pre-ignition or detonation caused by poor tuning, can produce enough force to bend/twist/snap connecting rods. So a mild case of detonation could easily cause a material as soft as a bearing to be flat-spotted and initiate rod knock. So yes poor tuning caused by piggy backs could easily cause rod knock, but will usually do much worse damage.

It's been proven that you can't sustain a big power motor with a ghetto set up. If you want a motor that puts down over 400ish rwhp reliably, build it correctly using quality parts that complement each other.

he melted a few pistons in the process.

and actaully a con rod can break with the right amount of pre-ignition. It is a chain reaction type affect that is actually quite marvelous to see and then to fathom why it happens even that much better :)
