There are those that just love to drive and those that love all the pieces that allow you to do it. :)

You want AWD + turbo? Buy an evo or wrx

Some people don't want a stubby-looking little 4-door with an oversized wing, whereupon each generation that passes, the car looks worse. Take the wing off those cars and it screams "grocery-getter". You just don't see that when you look at a 3kGT, even if it is heavier and more "cumbersome".

The 3kGT VR-4 was the first car I ever wanted based on looks alone. This was in my early teen years, before I knew anything about cars.

Knowing what I know now, I would definitely buy one, if the car was in great condition and meant for few or mild modifications. It's a very classy GT car, but again, the difficulty of working on a V-6 in a semi-cramped engine bay is only compounded by the addition of an AWD system and the famous quality Mitsu driveline.

Would I rather buy a Supra? Yes, but I would want to modify it. If I was going to have a car to keep close to stock, and not worry about weight or racing, I would probably rather get one of these.

i can't agree more with that statement.

just look at some pics under the hood of a vr-4. the first time i did it scared me.

oh, and btw...the hood lumps on older models are there because they had to make room in the hood for the struts..i find that funny... and almost a clue as to how much free space there is under the hood.

good luck.....

personally though i havent owned one...i love the thought of one. and i've read that you can eaisly turn up the boost (for free on models that had lower boost stock - theres a restrictor mechanism) above stock levels and get good HP gains without problems. i'd read up on the vadility of that before buying one of course...but its a nice plus to consider.

and vr-4s have all sorts of nifty gadgets like 2-type exaust that changes from sport to quiet, and active areo above 30 or so mph... part of why its so heavy is all the gadgets it has.

oh and lets not forget 4ws... i think thats just plain awesome. its only 1 degree of steer in either direction of course... nothing drastic, but i heard it makes lane changing a whole new ordeal...

werd, i hate working on this fucking car. reliability wise the 3kgt can't be any worse than the mkiii. at least an unmaintained mkiii.

They are ok cars if you dont upgrade them.

I hear of the xfer cases exploding and tranys dropping on the ground with them but you said dismiss the popular knows with the driveline faults.

they have 2X the components to upgrade with the same number of cylinders
I have kinda picked to stay away from mitsucrappy but thats just me.
I will stick with a JZ power supra, Besides we are also a 3000GT!

...edit. 300 crank and nearly as much torque.

1st gen = 300 307
2nd and 3rd gen = 320 315

Edit: Why do I always end up in the off topic, I'll never get a post count. Can an admin give me 666 since it's never gonna go up

IDK it's heavy, the engines are wierd some run well with lil problems and some are constantly blowing up, I've never personally liked them or thought much of them, and they are like mk4's to modify when it comes to prices. I'd rather get an EVO or STi for AWD or an RX7 or MK4 for funtasms.

My buddy has a 94 SL. The car feels real strong,im pretty sure i would lose in a race with my n/a against one. I searched around and the sl weighs a few lbs less than the supra. When my friend gets his exhaust finished were going to run them so he will feel good before i go boosted and blow his doors off.I personally wanted a 3000gt, but it was well out my price range, and i stumbled acrosss my supra :)

I saw a really clean SL in the school parking lot today. They may be slow but at least it looks nice. I suppose I could drive one, given I don't have to work on it.:biglaugh:

LOL @ that second thing...
and i believe the only reason it gained that extra 20hp (and extra torque of course) mysteriously is something they removed... almost as if they planned to remove it a few years into production to claim they "made it better for 20 extra HP" when all that really happened was they stifled the breathing on the 1st gen...
_EDIT--------
it was some little restrictor that you can simply cut out with a razor i think.....had to do with the turbo. maybe it was the wastegate or some controller. i know jack about turbos. i just know you can add HP to the older gen for free and not worry about reliability problems because the new ones have that much power
