Hey,

What does everyone think of these rims?

Would they look good on a Red 88 Supra?

Do you consider this design "ricey"?

I am just curious because I picked 4 of them up from someone that I know for 60 dollars a piece and they have never been driven. They are still in the original boxes.

They are the R187710H40GM, 17x7, 5x100/114.3, 40mm offset, Gun Metallic ones.

Do you think I would have any problems with them cracking under the weight of the MKIII? They are pretty darn light but I am not sure on a specific weight. I know they are not 8 inches or wider (a little disappointed that they are stock width), but with some good street tires they should still grip better than the sawblades. I can always get a pair of 15-16 inch drag rims for when I go to the strip.

still look good, but are you making a low amount of horsepower? if so, i'd say go for it, but 7" wide tires don't offer shit for traction if you're aiming for higher hp goals (in that case i'd save my $$$)

Well, I will be running a CT26-60 trim upgrade around 12-14 psi on the street and when I race it I hope to be using around 18 psi of boost. Then again, if I race I will probably down the road get some Street ET's and either toss them on the sawblades or get a pair of 15inch drag rims.

I picked those rims up a long time ago due to the "cost" of them without realizing the width issue.

I would assume if I pick up some good summer performance tires that even being only 7 inches wide they should still grip. I was looking at getting Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 to put on them.

I now would prefer to run something atleast 8 inches wide. (say the rx7 rims from 94-02)

Also, if I plan to auto-x the car and I think they have a width limit on tires. (can't remember for sure)

another cheap alternative wheel would be mustang wheels... very cheap, and very wide, and fit is pretty much right on...

but i like being able to get traction on crappy tires (currently rollin the 225 herculese tires) i seriously have no idea where these were found (they were on the car when i got it over a year ago)... but i'm aiming for some 10.5" rubber on the rear and 9" on the front, and 18" tall wheels to leave room for future brake upgrades

Pizza cutters + garbage offsets = fail

Personally don't care for the design either. They look cheap and ricy to me.

The thing is that I already purchased them about a year ago. I was trying to see if they would work ok on the Supra (temporarily) due to the fact that they are a lot lighter than the sawblades. Also, one of my sawblades has a nicked lip (still holds air) and is why I wont let anyone else drive my car. A friend of mine tryed to drive it in a parking lot a few years back and ended up hitting a curb.

I always thought that almost anything 5 spokes or less is not really that "ricey".

Youre too concerned what other people think about your wheels.
If you like them, run them.

I was also concerned if people thought that the wheels would work for our heavy cars. I was trying to get feedback as well on if they have had any experiences with similar ones.

For instance, the 93 RX7 wheels crack under the weight of our cars... if these would do the same thing then I would probably sell them and recover my money rather than use them and lose the money when they break.

I not only asked on feedback of the style, design, color, etc. but on the whole aspect of how well would they handle the cars weight and also traction. I was trying to find out if I could solve the traction issue by using stickier tires.

The whole width thing of 7 inches and why did I get them can be answered very easily. Our wheels are 7 inches as well as being very heavy... I was able to do a very cheap upgrade to reduce around 5-10 lbs per rim. Based on the saved weight the car should handle, accelerate, and brake better. When I get more cash later on I can upgrade to 8+ inch wide rims.

Just because they are not 8+ inches wide does not mean they are not better than the stock sawblades.

Any wheel you choose for a Supra should have some lip.

what boso said also ;)

::edit:: FD wheels crack under the weight of our cars? Since when? I don't know about that...
