So I decided after looking at countless threads online about detailing jobs, that I wanted to do the same to my paint. Several weeks research and I was ready to pick the products. Got everything in towards the end of the week so here is what I have done so far!

Products used:
Makita 9227 rotary buffer
M105
M205
W5000 wool pad
SO1O yellow buffing pad
Meguiars 2.0 yellow polishing pad
Meguiars 2.0 black finishing pad
Pair of Halogen lights
Lots of microfiber cloths

Started out with a good was with dawn soap to get everything off the paint, let it soak for a few minutes then washed it off.

Here is what I was working with:

Notice all the swirls in the halogen lights:

Here is my new favorite toy:

Making some progress with the wool and 105, you can see it removed almost all the defects, the haze you see is normal with this step, and comes out with the polishing:

On to the polishing, first with the yellow pad and 205:

Pulled off the tape to get some 50/50 before and after shots, can't believe how great it looks now! It looks wet and the flake really stands out.

Now I moved onto the hood, which is probably the worst part of the car. I only did 1/3 of it so far because I ran out of time. The paint isn't as clear as it should be but it did a fantastic job making it look pretty again. I don't have as many pics here as it was getting a little late and my assistant wasn't there! Here are a couple before shots:

You can see that not only are there a ton of swirls, but everything is just foggy/hazy. It really killed the look of the car. I don't have any in progress shots but here are the afters :)

Compare this to the reflection of the light earlier:

You can see how dusty the process is, I keep everything wiped down as I'm working on it but the rest of the car gets neglected I'm afraid. The little specs you see on the surface is just some of that dust...

And here she is as I called it a night:

Hope you all enjoyed. I'll keep this updated as I do more of the car. I also did part of a taillight and it makes them look new again! Let me know what you think.

looks fantastic, good job! paint work requires a lot of patience and a good routine, looks like you've applied both here.

I worked at a body shop for about a year. Gained a lot of experience using a buffer but never really got to save a car with one, just using it on new paint jobs. This is a whole new world! Definitely a lot of fun and a great feeling seeing your own car get such a treat.

Damn!

Now I really need to do mine! I used some polish by hand a while back and it helped, but got nowhere near as smooth and defect-less as that is. I'd be afraid to go through the clear...

I did car detailing as a part time job a few years ago while i was still a student, by the time i got home i was sick of polishing/waxing/cleaning etc and consequently my own car was neglected :naughty

having the right equipment and product makes the job much easier tho!

AWESOME!

And I thought my claybar crisperience was something! That transformation is outstanding, not to mention your CHOICE selection of car color in the first place.:biglaugh:

That looks really outstanding. My car needs this badly. The paint is decent overall but would look 10 times better after some love. Well done.

Damn that is awesome, awesome paint too. I knew you could do good things with a buffer, but never saw that much of a recovery! I imagine you spent a couple hours to do those spots but it was well worth it, keep up the good work man!
