Small shim? Sounds like that could be the "spacer" I was referring to. Its about an eighth of an inch thick with the bolt pattern of the crank. Confused now, just mounted the tranny but not completely done. Not too late to take back out to put "spacer/shim" back in. Hate to have to do this. Anyone got some clarity on this? How did such a simple question become so complex?

Lol, I've never seen or used a shim/spacer/anything between the flywheel and the crankshaft on any Supra I have worked on. I apologize if I misinformed you but I have never heard of a shim or spacer being present between the flywheel and crankshaft of a manual trans.

The flywheel bolts directly to the crankshaft. There is no shim or spacer on either side of the flywheel, and generally one should not be used at all. The only time you would ever consider running one is if you have machined a significant amount off of the flywheel and are trying to space it out to correct that issue, however on the R154 flywheel this is not a concern as it is a pull-type release bearing and if you ever get to the point where a spacer would be considered you've likely taken too much off and the clutch will likely not release anyway.

td;dr: No, do not put anything between the flywheel and the crankshaft.

Ok. Back on track. Thanks for the clarity. Its amazing how hard it is to get everyone to agree on here. Makes you second guess yourself. LOL
