Ironically, my Supra's throttle linkage actually did stick open a couple of years ago, I had to turn the car off all pull over to jimmy-rig the broken linkage.

I see that Canadians are capable of hitting the brakes, shifting out of gear, and shutting off the car. Apparently some Americans aren't as resourceful as there neighbors to the North .

Better to just shut the ign off and coast to a stop that way you still have steering and brake assist :)

Damnn I am glad I live in Texas, it isn't as socialistic as the north east........

Well things can be pretty socialistic, I don't think its a socialist or a bad idea to allow law enforcement to deem a car unsafe to drive. That is assuming the power is not abused. Theres some real shitboxes on the road, and allowing them to stay there is downright dangerous. You loose a tie rod on the highway in traffic, your not the only one effected by it.

Wouldn't that turn the engine off? Best is to just flip it in neutral (most autos will go into neutral with just a bump on the lever and a manual is easy, push the clutch in)

but with the engine in gear but notfiring it will still be turning the ps pump and creating vacuum for the brakes booster

If you put it in neutral without shutting the engine off (auto or manual) the stuck throttle will redline the motor = bad

If you shut the engine off in gear (manual only) the wheels spinning will keep the engine moving which will allow steering pump to be turned, and vacuum to be created for the booster.

Autos shut the engine off and be glad theres room for two feet on the brake pedal :)

^^^ he knows ;)

Be fucked if I'd rely on a limiter to catch a stock engine before it does damage....

Ign to off indicate to the shoulder safely with steering and brakes, once you get down to a safe speed put it in neutral get out change underwear ;)
(had mine stick open at 550rwhp a few times back when I was running the LPG Carb, standing on the brakes does NOTHING other than flat spot the front tires)

Correct me if I am wrong, but if the throttle is stuck open won't there be very little vacuum in the manifold to power the brake booster? I guess this all depends on how much vacuum it requires to provide adequate assist.

Redlining isn't going to hurt anything for the small amount of time it would be redlining. Especially on a computer controlled car. Not to mention it's not under load if it's in neutral AND I'd rather blow an engine than wreck the car and injure/kill myself.
