Ok to re-use ARP studs on HG change?

Was in at a Nissan/Subaru workshop and mentioned it, two mechanics said that you always have to change the head bolts. Told them they were studs, then they got unsure..

It really depends on the engine and the bolts being used. On the 7M, neither stock bolts nor ARP bolts need to be replaced, as neither a torque-to-yield.

That being said, there are procedures to check the stock bolts to ensure they are still within spec. To be on the safe side, I usually do like to replace them, but I do that for most bolts, lol.

So they're well informed on all things Toyota?

This would be like me giving Nissan/Subaru advice, I wouldn't off the top of my head without doing some research and getting a clue first.

I've reused Toyota Bolts in stock to very mild builds but for anything beyond that I do the same and take it as an opportunity to upgrade the hardware!

I also retire my ARP's on the 4>5th reuse just in case, I did this with the 2000 series bolts in the Pauter rods last build even though Mr Pauter himself said they'll be fine ;)

I'm using a set of ARP's from a crazy motor and ex-owner. Probably the 5th time. ;)

I replaced all the nuts and have ran a die over the studs themselves. :)

Unless they were torqued to max spec they are fine. As for running a die over them bad idea just make sure they are clean and the nuts go on smooth. Also make sure to use moly-lube to overcome friction when re-torquing.
