Welp, I'm in the market for a new stereo for my 510. I need something to be able to plug in my MP3 player (not an iPOD). I found one with an AUX jack, but then I find another with a USB hookup instead of the AUX jack. Is there any difference between the USB and AUX inputs??

Yes, big difference. AUX inputs are typically stereo or RCA plugs, whereas the USB input accepts USB plugs. With a USB input, you can actually fill up a jump drive with Mp3's and plug it in.

An AUX input can accept a wide range of different devices because of its standardized plugs.

I had a Kenwood HU with a USB port, which I loved! Many MP3 players can also use the USB port with the correct cable.

You might want to check the full specs of the given HU; most HU's with a USB input also have a standard AUX input (either on the front or back). So, you could have the best of both worlds.

I would personally go for the RCA AUX imputs. I hook my mp3 player up through them.
Another thing that they make is an aux imput but it is a standard headphone jack. I think my friend bought a new kenwood that had it in the front.
I would not buy a usb one, just too limiting.

If it as an aux input, you just have to get a cable with female L/R rca ends and the other end is a male headphone jack.

I bought the new Pioneer deck (second to highest one) and it has and RCA input, F/R/Sub RCA outputs, headphone jack in (paragraph above), and output for IPOD (had to get the adapter cable)

Ok, well when I bought my MP3 player it came with the USB cable. Should I still be able to use it??

It depends on the player, although most will work.

What head unit are you considering? As I said before, most HU's with a USB port ALSO have a standard port. If you tell me which model, I can get full specs - this may be a non-issue.

Well I think I found the asnwer to my problem. Even though it's not a kenwood. But if it'll shut me up here it is.

IMO, stay away from sony. They're not complete shit, but you can have better.

Now keep in mind, your mp3 player uses a USB cable to connect to the computer, but in most cases it wont' play through the USB. HU's with USB connections are usefull for hooking up to external harddrives. What type of mp3 player do you have, as that's critical in determining whether or not a USB connection would even work.

Either way, I'd find a headunit with AUX input, most new ones have them now. I'm a big pioneer fan, they've got great stuff. Panasonic HU's are pretty decent too, as of course are alpine units.
