On my block on the under side I know there are 6 numbers on the INTAKE side after you remove the oil pan, they match the numbers on the pistons, right, TSRM said so lol. Well, I also noticed 4 numbers to the upper right of those and 3 more to the upper left. Looking from the intake side this is what I see,

------>FRONT OF ENGINE
(this is on the under side around the rim where the oil pan bolts to)
222 --------------- 2232

221321

I didnt look at all my pistons yet, but some of them either look like this

< 3 - 2 (YES 2 NUMBERS ON ONE PISTON)

Another says < 2 - 1

What the freakin hell!? How do I tell which piston went where now... please just tell me that b4 u tell me to get new pistons and hone my cylinder walls and all that, PLEASE.

TIA GUys

Never mind, I read that the FIRST number closest to the front mark is the size, but whats that second number there for? Piston rings or what?

Look under the engine section of the TSRM, there is info on what these numbers mean. They refer to the main and rod bearing sizes iirc.

You need to read up, you have to add the numbers on the block to numbers on the crank, and look on chart in TSRM, those are for the mains.

Are you sure you have a 7M? ;)

no, i have 2 :evil2:

my GE threw a rod bearing to shreds, the journal on the crank is fucked. So Im transferring my entire bottom end from my GTE block to my GE, just changing the pistons from my GE to the GTE rods before it goes in. I was just seeing if the bottom half of the main bearings had to match in the block somehow or just the crank, if they have to match the block too I dont see how its ever possible to use another crank shaft after a shop machines the crank and orders new bearings, it wouldnt match the block still right?

Thats all Im wondering. The GTE was fine, less than 60k miles and all the bearings and everything are still lookin new, so its a straight transfer, least Im hoping.

The GE, had 3 diff rod sizes, the GTE had two. I know the only bottom end differences are the oil pump and pistons. All my GE pistons are perfect, so they are going onto the corrosponding rods from the GE to the GTE ones. The I was just gonna drop my new GTE bottom end in there. If I took my GE to a machine shop, the crank and rods, and they resize, then the crank wouldnt match the block anymore right? So same difference kinda thing here RIGHT?

You can order diffrent size bearings to match each one to get your oil clearece right or you can have the mains line bored so that they all are the same.

so wait, the bottom main bearings can be a different size than the TOP main bearings on the same journal? Like the first one the bottom is a 3 and the top is a 2?

Please tell me thats what you mean, and Ill love you forever.

This is my problem, I have ANOTHER crank with OTHER main bearing sizes that came from a GTE, I also have all my main bearings from my GE. The GE is getting the crank from the GTE, is it gonna be OK to use my GTE main bearings or do I need to use the GEs main bearings on the new crank from the GTE? They ARE different. What can I do?

Are you saying I can take my GE upper bearings and use my GTE lower main bearings to make this work? I am VERY confused bc when you get your crank resurfaced and all that, wouldnt you need new main bearings that WOULDNT fit the block if it has to match.... I dont get it

Need to know fast guys, TIA

wait I think I get this now, lemme see if this is right....

I put the GTE crank on my GE block, I do the number matching between the two and get NEW bearings that meet that size with them together...

So like
No.1 Journal
GE BLOCK: 1
GTE CRANK: 2
NEW BEARING: 3

What if the GTE crank there WAS 2 on the old block (GTE Block), with this method will it work with the new bearing and it being a new size? If this IS true this way, I most likely have all the bearings I need between the two LOL.
