Awesome, thanks jdub - I'm planning on this:

1) Initial fire up on straight 30wt
2) First 500 on dino 10w30 (probably Mobil's stuff)
3) If my oil pressure is looking good on the 10w30, I'll switch over to 5w30 Redline.
OR
3) If my oil pressure seems a little low, I'll switch over to 10w40 Redline ;)

That is a good plan, but I would run straight dino 30W for the 1st 1500 miles to make sure the rings seat correctly...you can run Walmart SuperTech and filter...anything else is a waste of $$$. Then switch direct to the Red Line and a Wix or PureOne filter (I use Wix).

I am also running tight clearances on my 2j, within spec. I have been running it with castrol 5w30 and will switch to amsoil 5w30 after ~500miles. All oil lines are -12, with mocal 180 thermostat and 25 row cooler. I don't plan on running it the way Nash will run his. If I did, I would have set my clearances on the loose side and use thicker oil. With the 5 stage dry sump system, oil pressure is almost instantly up as soon as motor is cranked over. Ron

i do plan to run it looser just got to find out what oil i wana run frist i really do liek the idea of acusump thou for peroiling
eslisly if run a thick oil

we have very mild climet hear as well no ice age shit just mostly rain liek settle and such

FWIW - i rebuilt my eclipse turbo, and i used all oem stuff, broke it in with castrol 10-30, for about 400miles, i didnt drive it super hard, but i wasnt easy on it, and i then switched to castrol synthetic 5-30, and when i just had the car smogged, it was emitting almost NOTHING. So either the cat was doing a really good job, or the rings were really seated in with only 800Miles on them...

So you dont have to run dino oil for a set period, just for a few hundred... Just thought i would throw that in there.

Both are Grp IV, PAO based syn oils...my choice would be the 10W-40. Amsoil's XL line is Grp III hydrocracked mineral oil.

Personally (if I were to use a 40W multigrade), I go with just as good, less expensive:

Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5W-40
Kinematic Viscosity @ 100°C, cSt 14.5
Kinematic Viscosity @ 40°C, cSt 90.5

Shell Rotella T Synthetic 5W-40
Kinematic Viscosity @ 100°C, cSt 15.0
Kinematic Viscosity @ 40°C, cSt 90.0

-OR-

Redline 10W-40 (If you're gonna spend the $$$ for Amsoil, this is far better...Grp V ester base stock)
Kinematic Viscosity @ 100°C, cSt 14.6
Kinematic Viscosity @ 40°C, cSt 93.0

Enos and Motul also have 40W multigrades...they are also very good syn oils, if you can get a good deal ;)
