I happen to do a unintentional test of how hot your oil temps get while driving. My oil cooler got a hole and I needed to odred a replacement. So I drove around for a while without a cooler. This got me to thinking that maybe I need a temp switch just to see how things are without a cooler.:nono: I installed my oil temp switch, and discovered oil temps up to 220 while driving mildly and 260 while driving briskly.:aigo: I got my cooler and mounted it in between the AC condenser, and the intercooler. This bought my oil temps down to 205-210 dgrees. When the weather got cool, or it rained my temps fell to about 180 in the rain and when cool 195. This lead me to believe that I wasnt getting enough air flow, and that my cooler may need to go back under the drivers head light. Sooo...I ordered a new hood as some of you may know, which has vents in it. My oil temps fell to 195-205 degres. I decided to order a bomex big mouth replica nose, and CSF aluminum radiator, and mounted them yesterday ,and now my oil temps never go over 195 degrees. While driving the oil temp is 180-185 degrees, and while driving briskly never goes over 195.:naughty: :biglaugh:

I don't have a temp gauge, but I do know on a cold day driving at 83mph for hours, the RX7 oil cooler was bypassing at the thermostat quite a bit.

When I stopped for a break, I popped the hood, and the thermostat side of the oil cooler was hot, the other side was just barely warm.

If I drive the car "briskly" as you put it, the entire cooler becomes hot, so the thermostat must be working great.

Mine is mounted in the air flow from the upper grille on my 88. (Just tig'd the mounts to the end tanks on my intercooler so there is very minimalcontact between the two coolers, just 1/4" by 2" on both sides, and a good air gap between them so minimal heat transfer should be going to my intercooler.)

One of these days I'm going to build a shroud to keep the air seperated between the two, all the lower grille air over the intercooler, and all the upper grille air over the oil cooler.

I think the stock front cover and impact bar can be changed so it will increase flow, but not be all "cutout" looking from above. (If you were to look from ground level, you'd see the mods, but that's the only way.) If your wondering what I'm going to do, look at a C5 bumper. They work very well.

Hell I am excited I had a little air in my radiator burped it and drove around and now my temps barely make 180 when driving. Now at a red light it doesnt go over185 degrees.I have a thermostat and without it it would over cool!

I come from a land down under
Ant: Way back when I ran temp gauges all over my 240 I saw a trend of Engine Oil following Water temps quite closely!

I adjusted all of the pumps and T Stats to keep it all within safe limits then ignored it all ;)
