...what you need to do when priming a new motor is pull the valve covers, plugs, and injector resistor and crank until oil flows out of the cams with no bubbling, if you get pressure on the stock gauge, good. Then fire it up and look for your pressure again...
Oil pressure is hit or miss, and all the pressure in the world doesn't matter ONE bit if you aren't getting oil flow everywhere, and checking at the highest point (cams) is the safest bet for priming, then worry about pressure.
There is a whole lot of misinformation flying around in this joint... ...back home (celicasupra.com) we have people labled "BS POLICE", and you get slapped on hard for spouting about stuff you don't know. It's not the most friendly thing in the world, but it might help considering if one were to follow every suggestion in this post, they'd have wasted hours of their time and done it rather incorrectly.
