Fresh engine rebuild, bearings up. No oil pressure indication, thought it was sensor or guage. Oil filter has flow going to it. Rebuilt turbo ate itself. Pulled turbo today, it was starved of oil, lines were dry. pulled Oil pressure sensor, dry behind it. With turbo oil lines out, pressure sensor out, I cranked the engine. I have flow to the oil filter, but nothing coming out of the other holes....Does anyone have any idea what the hell is going on?

I cranked the motor for 20 seconds at a time until I saw flow come out the oil filter relocation hose and I saw oil moving around in the cam cover. The only pressure indication I was getting was that the needle was going straight to around 18 psi. turns out I had a JDM pressure sender. I replaced it with a used USDM one- no indication at all (needle didn't even go to 0psi when key was turned) I thought I had fryed the guage. I put in another used pressure sender, no needle movement PERIOD. put the JDM sender back in needle moves back to 18 psi with power on, takes about 25 seconds to drop once power is removed. pulled sender. cranked engine. no oil came out sender hole. oil comes out relocation hose. remove relocation kit. install stock filter. crank engine. oil JUMPS out of hole. reinstall usdm sender. crank engine. no needle movement. install jdm sender needle goes to 18psi with power on. no movement during cranking. install NEW USDM sender no needle movement with power on or during cranking. I'm confused and would like some direction or insight please.

Sooooo you're saying that if I routed the relocation kit improperly the oil, and pressure, would have stopped at the filter, due to the one directionality of it, annnnd.......

fuck

i think i just pooped myself.....thank god I drank that half carafe of white a bit ago or I might have just gone lizzy borben on my 89 with my stihl.......SO.....hmmm.....what kinda of damage....other than the turbo.... might I have done?

Before I go any further does anyone have any idea what's going on with my pressure indication....I have a brand new pressure sender in there, and the needle never moves from it's non-powered spot below zero psi. When i install the Jdm sender the needle moves to about 18psi BEFORE cranking, and does not move during engine cranking. Is the the guage fa-cockta? or is there some other component that I need to be looking at? Eric

Chuck the JDM gauge, it is not compatible with the USDM MKIII at all, that's why it's acting like it is. pull your EFI fuse and crank over for a few long bursts and you should see the needle start to build presure. Removing the spark plugs will help with it cranking over faster.

You fried the gauge, I did the same thing with mine and the JDM oil pressure sensor. I stuck the USDM one in, threw a new gauge in the dash, and it worked great.

How tough/expensive is it to remove replace the guage? Aside from the new guage and patience are there any other materials I need?

Should uplug from the back and unscrew, but then again, it's been awhile since I've had mine out. FTR, if you aren't doing this everytime, now's a good time to start, take off your neg cable from the battery terminal everytime you do something like this.

Yeah, I pull the batt out completely and leave it on the charger every time major work go into progress. Is there anything I need to know about pulling the cluster to get the guage out? Do I have to go through Toyota to get the guage or will a used one be okay? How much do they go for? After dumping so much in I've become a cheap bastard-o. Eric

I got the gauge used from someone on the boards. A used one should be fine. You won't need anything aside from a screwdriver to replace it. I think I payed something like 25-35 shipped for it.
