oil squirter replacement

I'm putting together an itinerary for the "refreshment" (new crankshaft seals/oil/coolant gaskets) of my engine this weekend and I had a question about the oil squirters. I know that the TSRM indicates to install them when the crankshaft is out of the engine, however, can they be replaced with the crank in place? I haven't seen the 7M bottom end in a few years and I completely forget if there is enough clearance to remove them with the crank in place. I really don't want to have to mess with the rod and main bolts if I don't have to.

you can but you better have wobble extensions and about 2 feet worth of extensions too. That is the easy part of taking them out. The install them in....... short of a 3 foot needle nose pliar.

sounds like it might be difficult to get an accurate torque on the squirters that way...I guess I'll have to make a gametime decision.

thats not entirely true. i replaced mine during my build. with the crank in, they were a pain in the ass, but definetly doable. i did have the motor out, so i made it easier. you just need to rotate the crank for each one.

that gives me a bit more confidence...the motor is out of the car, and rotating the crank won't be a problem.

I really didn't want to disturb the bottom end...

I can let you know next thursday. i forgot to order my set, and its holding up the installation of my the motor and transmission. I have a 7M crank... possibly more difficult, but looking at it dosent seem too challenging?

This kind of comment does not cut it in the Tech Section...if you don't know for sure, do not post.

Neither the squirters or the bolts are aluminum. A magnet will be of limited use, unless it's a socket insert.
