Oil Sensor Problem

I called the machine shop and setup a time to drop off my block. They want the block stripped. No problem right?!

Well, when I was removing the oil pressure sensor, it twisted off and the threads stayed in the block. Has anyone had this happen and what did you do? It is going to a machine shop...should I just have them deal with it?

A second question...how do you get the dip stick tube out? I hit on it a little bit; but, it's not moving. Do I need to just stop being a sissy and really wack it hard? :icon_bigg

If the Machine Shop does not take care of it then maybe you can check out a autopart store(like Napa) and see if they have a tool you can use to remove that. I had a similar problem on the coolant plug threads on a 96 Tahoe.

Do you mean that the threads stayed in the block, or the whole threaded part?

If it's just the threads, run a tap though it to remove the extra metal bits. If the shop doesn't take care of it, then those will be in the oil system, which is going to be a bad thing.

If it's the whole threaded part then I'd invest in an extractor and yank it out anyway. It's never been my experience that letting someone else "take care of it" results in satisfactory resolution of the problem.

A tap or extractor as the job requires is cheap. Metal bits on your oil system aren't.

lol. Usually, I'm the guy who has to "take care of" this stuff for others. As such, It makes my job much harder if someone who doesn't know what they're doing was in there making the problem worse.

Point out the problems to the machine shop, and check it when you pick it up to make sure they fixed it.

The di[ stick only has one bolt in it, then it should slide out easily. It did on mine...

Basically the sensor twisted off and the rest of it stayed in the block. I'll check on both the tap extractor and I'll call the machine shop and see what recommendations they have.

Got the dip stick tube out. I just had to man up and hit it harder! :biglaugh:
