Oil Return Question

Ok, I've been thinking about the best way of doing this and I want some input. I'm going NA-T before the year's end and I'm writing out my game plan and then I came up against the oil problem. I've got the feed down, but the return is where I'm lost. What's the best way to add a bung or drain for the return without pulling the engine (if that's possible).

I was thinking about using the 10 A/N flange that MDCMotorsports sells and drilling a hole into the oil pan, lining it up, putting some sealer around the flange and having someone spot weld the flange to the pan where the two bolts go. Good idea, bad?

What about on the oil pan? I was taking a look around under there earlier to check things out and noticed a bolt up on the passenger side kind of directly under the oil filter (I'm guessing this is the oil cooler return). Could there be some way to use that?

Cliff note: What's the best way to put an oil return on a GE without pulling the engine?

Lift the engine or drop the subframe and use a GTE pan!
Otherwise, you stand the risk of slag getting in the pan somehow, or shavings ending up in there.
I'd remove the pan to put the flange on, or remove the pan to replace with a GTE pan.

I have a GTE pan, but I don't have the means to pull the engine and didn't want a shop to charge me out the ass for something that I could do. How hard is it to drop the subframe?

Also, I heard that there's no actual drain on the GTE pan and that there's no difference between them. So I guess I'll just take the extra pan to a shop and get the flange welded on. But yeah, how hard is it to drop the subframe?

Is there no location where the GTE's have the turbo drain to? Should just be a block off plate there?

Otherwise the oil cooler drain will work. I would use that as your turbo drain, and then get an aftermarket oil cooler, filter mount and lines.

I wouldn't recomend drilling the pan with it still on the engine.

I have two oil pans. One on the car and one not on the car

I think I'm gonna keep researching the subframe idea. From what I've read so far it doesn't seem impossible, just not fun.

Oh and IJ or whoever might know provide good input, how did the idea for putting the flange on the oil pan sound? Do you think it would hold/work?

hmmm I just read a little about the "Silver Braze." I'm gonna have to look into that. Thanks a lot for the help! +1

Edit: Maybe not, haha
