oil pump replacement

hello all,

I am having some issues with oil pressure and I am pretty sure that the pump is probably going bad because the car has almost 174k on it. My question is: Can I replace the oil pump with the motor still in the car or does the motor have to be removed in order to accomplish this?

you COULD lift the car pull the sub frame out and take the pan off.. although with a set of 2 more hands you can have a motor out in 2 hrs tops.

getting the motor out in 2 hrs tops takes a lot of practice. I just pulled mine for the third time and including beer/smoke breaks it took me almost 6 (alone).

p.s. these cars are known for having very very low oil pressure (like 4psi at idle when warm)...and the manual says that's what it's supposed to be and that's how toyota built it. Unless you're getting 0psi...it's probaby just normal.

^thats funny first time pulling the motor i had it done in 2 hrs with the help of 2 other supra owners. One had done it twice and the other friend never touched the 7M..

If one tackles disassembling the tranny mounts, while the other two tackle motor mounts fuel lines wire harness and ac lines it comes out no problem. The motors are rediculously easy to pull.

For the harness just disconnect it from the ECU and pull it through the firewall. Disconnect your Reverse lights and fenderwell wires, disconnect the speedo cable and clutch lines, fuel lines, ac lines and power steering lines and the motor mounts and the whole thing should just slip out.. 2 bolts for the tranny mount 2 for the carrier bearing, and the rest are for the fuel ac etc its easier to pull the motor then to do a head gasket

I didnt know that it was supposed to be that low when warm. My car when warming up builds really good pressure (to about 40 psi), but when it is warm the pressure gauge is really low, probably about 4 psi, but then the pressure builds back up when The car is in motion. I take it this is normal for the supra by the 4psi at idle when warm. I must have read right over that when i was looking at the tsrm. looks like no oil pump duty for me then.
