Oil Pump Drive bearings?

Well. The bearings on my old engine were perfect, but the machine shop cracked that block, and then got me a new one. With very very bad oil pump drive bearings. And pretty much bad everything else too.

So. Where do I get these things? The ones from Toyota are oversize... and the only other place that I've found is SIP Racing. I ordered from there... 4 business days later and they haven't even charged my card.

I actually took the ones out of my old engine and was planning on putting them in the new... Then I screwed that up by putting the front one in first... Long story short the extension hit the front bearing and put a nice few dings in it... :nono:

I guess I was just hoping for a quick fix. So you're saying I should just get Toyota bearings and have my machinist cut the shaft down a couple thou?

Quick tip, Napa sells these bearings for a fraction of the price of OEM and they are TaiHo brand which is the saem brand that supplies Toyota with bearings for this engine. They may be listed as "cam bearings" and come in a set of the two.

I'll go and ask them then. I called a store and actually went into my local NAPA store and they said they didn't stock anything.. But I'll ask them about cam bearings then.

On a side note, does anybody know what the little eccentric is for on the tail end of the oil pump drive? I figured fuel pump on the old M blocks, but wasn't sure as I've pretty much only dealt with new cars.. No idea what the fuel pump lobe looks like, hah

EDIT: I think I found them on the NAPA website, but they weren't listed as cam bearings. They were listed as intermediate shaft bearings. P/N ATM 2C3302000

And they also arent TaiHo, they're Altrom Imports. Which apparently they make things for Toyota too..

Definitely looks like the bearings.. And I have no idea where else they would go... Just want somebody to double check for me.

Yup I believe you are right about the lobe. There is even a hole in the side of the block for a mechanical fuel pump. I believe earlier versions of the block used a mech. fuel pump, IJ mentioned this somewhere, he will prob chime in on that. Also, the bearings are listed as Altrom, but they come in a TaiHo box. This is the box I got from Napa. They are special order more than likely but they can order them in for you. And more than likely they will size the bearing to the shaft rather than the other way around.

Yep, bearings get linished to the proper size. It's also absolutely critical for the oil holes to be lined up.

Yes, the eccentric would be for a mechanical fuel pump, though so far as I know it was never used on that block...

I think it's easier to cut the bearings, maybe that's what "linished" ^ is.:)

One other question.. With a MLS head gasket, is it possible to put on the lower timing cover AFTER putting the head on? I wouldn't think so.. But just wanted to double check..

Do you have to remove the studs to get it on? With the studs off I think it would be a lot easier, then just replace with bolts..

EDIT: pretty much decided to just wait to put the head on, but I'm not gonna wait to assemble the head lol.

My one major concern is getting the sealer where its supposed to go inbetween the cover and the block hah

FWIW, Altrom is a napa "line" and not a manufacturer. They re-box OEM, OEM supplier, and "rare parts" manufacturer stuff. Some good stuff, some cheap stuff (like everything these days).
