this isnt really a problem... more of a statement...

i see many people, with questions relating to low oil pressure... and everyone seems to say that stock pressure at idle is 5 psi..

and at 5 psi... the gauge would barely be off the bottom line? i understand that this is not the case... but to someone who didnt know any better... would think that his pressure is normal, when the needle is just a hair above the bottom line..

i think its worth clarifying to the guys who dont know much better that, with a good gauge and sending unit, the pressure at start up should be at least halfway between the "zero" line and the "20 psi" line.. and when driving it should be 30-50 on the gauge..

i hope this helps people.. b/c i was certainly confused when i was seeking answers... i read that 5 psi is good at idle... so i thought it was normal for the gauge to be barely off the lower line... but its not..

hope this helps someone

Stock gauge is not very accurate. 5 psi with an aftermarket one or a gauge to check pressure on cars that have an idiot light is ok for stock. Several threads about this also state the same as above. Also should be noted that those are warmed up pressure numbers.

^^^yup, stock gauge isn't the best thing out there.

It should also be noted that you really shouldn't be looking at the numbers that 7M-GTE's are seeing for reference; the plumbing is quite different.
