my oil pressure guage works wen i start the car it goes up then slowly starts to go down and then reaches 0 the car seams to be running fine and not spitting oil or smoking could this be my oil pressure sensor? and as of lately the guage is all the way up past 120 im thinking it is the oil pressure sensor.

My oil pressure drops down near Zero as well when stopped a but i believe this is normal for 7M's, I on the other hand not experienced mine going up past 120.

If 0 oil pressure was normal do you think there would be any oil pressure at all? I have seen both gauges go bad and or sender units.. Test the gauge and sender unit with a DVOM

Stock hot idle oil pressure is like 3.5psi or something. The stock gauges are usually off anyways. That said mine is never at 0.

So, do you have an after market gauge hooked to the stock oil pressure sending unit? if so, your gauge will freak out.

can u actually do that?? i'm actually thinking of something the opposite..hooking an aftermarket sender to the STOCK gauge...

cos my gauge reads NOTHING currently , but i detect a voltage at the connector going to the stock sender on the engine block..

i suspect the sender's prob dead..and i have a couple of aftermarket ones that came with the Autometer gauges...was wondering if it works..:)

NO. Dont do it. The senders are different and work at different voltages. So it may work for you for a bit then freak out, or work for you for 1 second. I dont recommend doing it that way.

www.driftmotion.com has the senders.. The way you can check if the gauge is working is take the wire that goes to the sender and use a alligator clip jumper lead and connect it to any ground on the car.. The gauge should go all the way up.. If it does then you have a bad sender unit.. If not then you have problems elsewhere..
