Before I was trying to get oil pressure during initial cranking of my rebuild. Discovered that I had a JDM oil pressure sensor.
The gauge moved to neutral when cranking then.
Bought USDM sensor.
Just installed it. (yes the lead is on there)
During cranking NO, NONE, ZIP action from the guage.
Oil is at the proper level.

Could I have blown the guage before? :1zhelp: :1zhelp: :1zhelp:
Where do I go from here?

Yep...the JDM sensor can blow your gauge. If the other gauges are working, your gauge fuse is likely good (check it anyway).
Need another oil pressure gauge...the '87-88 is a little different in appearance from the '89+.

the motor doesnt create much pressure cranking, idle oil pressure is like 3psi IIRC per TSRM

Edit: TSRM states 4.3 PSI @ idle

Going to check now on the fuse, It's good

X: shouldn't the guage move to neutral with the key in the on position?

And does the Tach move during cranking? (it didn't)

Thank you, I guess I should have been more specific. Any input Mr. Lange? I know you have far more knowledge and experiance with my current connundrum.

What do you mean by the gauge going to neutral position... 0?

The oil pressure gauge should go to zero with no oil pressure (ignition on - engine off) or if there is no ignition power (key in off position).

The tach will not register rpm until it receives an IG- signal from the igniter...that does not happen until the coil packs actually fire. That is dependant on the ECU "seeing" the CPS generated NE and a least one of the G1 or G2 signals. In short, you may get a small, erratic tach needle movement during an extended cold crank. If it fires right up, the tach should show the appropriate rpm almost immediately.

Okay, good. Tach is off the list. Does the oil press guage go to zero independant of the sensor, or because of it?
What I mean is: Will the guage go to zero without the sensor connected?

The gauge should go to zero without the sensor connected...it's the same as if the key is in the off position.
