Oil Pressure Gauge Failure

Is this a common problem or is it a age issue, My oil pressure gauge is spiking as high as it goes, even when it is shut off. Is this the gauge or sender?

probably the sender... unless its clogged and you really have that high of pressare all the time...

the sender is on the passenger side towards the front of the block under a black boot/cover.

yeah, maybe tthe sender, my pressure is usually between 20 and 40
