I just got my 1990 Supra 7mge running again after head gasket job. Car is running great but my oil pressure gauge seems to read low. I dont really understand exactly how oil pressure reading is suppose to behave on the gauge. Is it normal for it to read really low like almost zero while driving very slow and at idle?? Even when Im moving about 60-70 mph it never seems to read much above 40lbs/in. Is that normal for the 7mge naturally aspired engine?? Thanks guys. Educate me!! Tks.

Ok, first education. This is the Website Questions section, for questions about the website, not your car. Posting in the proper section helps get your questions answered. I'll move the thread to the appropriate section.

Now, to actually answer your car question, is it normal? Maybe.

The 7M uses a high volume low pressure oil system. The spec for the car is 4.3 psi or more at idle and 36-71 psi @ 3,000 rpm or above.

See this page in the TSRM:

Using a high quality mechanical pressure gauge is more accurate, but I suspect you're within spec - it sounds about right.

Absolutely perfectly normal. Much higher would be abnormal. It's a low pressure system and the stock gauge has been known to read low anyways.
