Can someone explain the difference between the the front sump oil pan and the rear sump oil pan? If what I'm thinking is right, I have the front sump and why couldn't I use that?

Its where the sump is, where a majority of the oil is pooled, and where the oil pan pickup is.

Our cars are rear sump, thus meaning the oil "pool" is closer to the rear of the engine.

you cant use a front sump because thats where the cross memeber sits

:word8kn:

unless of course you have a car that can use a front mount oil pan.

if you want a 2jz to fit in a mkiii supra (or a 1jz) you need the 1jz oilpan from the mkiii supra or the mkiv supra oil pan. mid/rear will work with the mkiii (or hey a dry sump will too!:) )

Ι got mine (rear sump oil pan) new from Toyota.
You can't make a custom one, cause if you see an oem one
you'll understand why.It is complex,with small brackets,holes
for sensors, oil passages, etc.,it has details and details makes
the difference.Use a Toyota one used or new doesn't matter.

12111-46052 PAN ASSY OIL, UPPER PAN.... 300 euros/ $410 USD
12102-46031 PAN ASSY OIL, LOWER PAN.... 150 euros/ $220 USD

16100-49846 PUMP ASSY,WATER ............. 120 euros / $160 USD
(for those who want the non hydro fan system,& desire the belt driven
fan like all supras have)

13405-46030 FLYWHEEL,SUB ASSY (FROM 1JZ-GTE).....? $$$
(you need this flywheel if you go with the 5-speed R154 transmission
or an aftermarket will do,but still a 1jzgte aftermarket flywheel)

Hope I helped you,even a little...

Good luck on getting the parts

Also, would any of you know if the upper oil pan you can buy off of toyotapartscheap.com is a rear sump oil pan? The illustration pictures it as a front but that wont work for the supra even tho it says it's for a supra!

The illustration is mistaken.Yeah, believe it or not it's true!
I went at Toyota, gave him the part number for a supra jza80
US spec (rear sump oil pan) and the illustration was showing
a front sump oil pan..:aigo:

But it came as rear sump oil pan,as it should be!
Use the part numbers I have posted before in this thread!

For a brand new upper oil pan for the 2JZ at toyotapartscheap.com is $281.91 if anyone else is interested! I went by part number so I know this is the right part.
