Oil Pan Questions

I'm pulling my oil pan, my questions are

Has anyone done it per TSRM - I dont like it nor agree with it all so i'm gonna do it per Haynes manual lol- i pulled off all i need today(motor mounts, crossmember, and tranny to eng block supports) but cant get a engine hoist till tuesday.

My next question is i read a post and it seems like 75% people recommend gasket in a tube over cork i allready but a cork gasket and wonder if anyone has used high-tac along with there cork gaskets.

Mainly has anyone done it with the engine in car and not want to beat toyota engineers:icon_bigg

Use the Toyota FIPG sealant and nothing else. I have used a gasket with permatex stuff in the past only to have it leak. I re-did the job with this stuff and problem solved. It's well worth the $20 Toyota gets for a tube. Use it, you will not regret it.

Stock doesn't have a gasket. Properly applied FIPG works best (or some of the stuff IJ recommends that's newer and stronger)

On the gasket front, the other 25% are wrong. The TSRM is very clear on what to use.

As for beating engineers, they are not the mechanics otherwise lots of things would be different ;)

yah i know i meant with the cork gasket(which i bought before reading my manual) most of us use it at work when we got cork.

well the haynes manual is full of it:cry:

i did about 50/50 per haynes and tsrm

on the bright side you dont have to remove hoos, brake lines, stablizer bar ends. but i had to remove struts, and front "sub frame" and lift the engine to the max without breakign anything. but that gives you alot of room.


on the sealant side---WOW that shit is strong.

this eng was rebuilt but is it a grey/silver colour??

Haynes manual was thrown on a shelf when I read to tighten the valve cover bolts "until tight."

TSRM usually is the safest way to do things if you don't want to break shit or have things go wrong.

Yes, high-tac would be used with a cork gasket, but don't use the gasket...

it is comign down to time, if i cant get it in the morning i gotta use the gasket, but does anyone know the colour, cause if this shit is what i took apart today, wow??

If you're asking about the engine itself it came black, if it is silver or gray it has been painted. The gasket color is black from Toyota.

I did my oil pan gasket with the motor in the car and I had to remove the tranny and just loosen the motor mounts and take them off and then replaced the gasket. I didn't touch the cross member or suspension.

nah not the block. the actual toyota FIPG i meant, i guess the guy before me used some other gasket in a tube, didn't leak though.

you removed the tranny eh, i guess thats abother way to do it, but either way my pan is out.
