I used Toyota FIPG, which is black "oil resistant" RTV, it runs like 14 bucks a tube. Cork gaskets didnt work well for me, always breaking and squishing out the sides, etc.... Just use RTV...

I've sealed a few oil pans with Permatex The Right Stuff, and never had problems with leaking. I've also used the Toyota FIPG, the FIPG has a better shelf life once opened then the Right Stuff does.

I'm gonna use this thread since it almost covers what I want to know.

I had my engine rebuilt last december, but ever since I have had a minor oil leak, which seems to come from the oil pan on the passenger side.

We are going to fix it next week, but I would like to know if I should put a gasket in there or not.

The TSRM says no gasket as far as I can see. And reading this thread I can see people just using sealant.

I was wondering if the fact that my pan is leaking after using just the sealant would change this recommendation? The guy who is going to help me reseal the oil pan tells me to use a gasket this time since just using sealant on an old previously leaking oil pan is just asking for trouble.

If I should use a gasket this time, where do I get one? Does Toyota make one?

make sure both surfaces are clean and dry and sealent will work just fine. I myself just use fipg on anything that calls for a sealent because i work at toyota and get it pretty cheap. Interested in this 3bond stuff though, is it just easier to work with then other sealents or why do some of you like it better then others?

FOLLOW THE TSRM.

if you follow it exactly, your oil pan wont leak.

this includes checking the oil pan sealing surface for flatness.

be sure to follow the proper torque sequence and it wont leak.
