Mine has had an aftermarket cork gasket on it for 10 years. Leaks not a drop. It's not about the gasket material, it's all about proper prep and installation...

My motor has one too.

However, the second you over torque and it breaks or pinches tighter than other ends... it's all over. :)

Sorry Pood, no sale. I've been building engines since way before gasket came in a tube. Before even RTV was around. All we had was cork and it worked fine. Still does.

I'm not saying FIPG isn't an improvement in some ways but there nothing special about the 7M's pan or block that precludes doing it old school. The difference is back then we learned how to be good mechanics...something that is generally lacking in today's youth car culture.

not all of us know when to stop turning, or use a torque wrench on everything (I do)

FIPG works better for the masses IMHO...

Well I must say, you are the first person I have ever seen on this forum say anything but "Cork is the WORST option"

I know someone installed a cork gasket on mine at some point and I have them to thank for rod knock. (and myself for being irresponsible about it but that was before I was on this forum ;))

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA

Stock is FIPG

Cork is made by the horrible aftermarket gasket makers, and they DON'T SEAL WORTH SHIT. Ask anyone with a SBC, CORK SUCKS!

Oil does NOT penetrate FIPG.

fellas, i said RTV, not the FIPG. oil penetrates RTV over time, period. This is not only mentioned on most RTV sealant packages it was proven on my last car as the idiot who rebuilt it decided to use some as an oil pan gasket...took time to happen but it did eventually. And personally i have never had any issues with cork gaskets being penetrated.

Ok wow I leave this thread for 12 hours and it explodes. Well started taking pan off finally and damn I now remember how much I HATE doing it. Well either way I have a cork gasket and also the FIPG. The RTV was because I didnt know what it was originally called until BJ91T told me. And I learned real quick on this car from having to replace intake mani gaskets that not torquing things down to proper specs just causes headaches and such in the end. Had to replace the y-pipe cuz of an over torque on one of the bolts. I own three different torque wrenches for that reason now so I can torque anything from 1ft lbs up too 300 ft lbs. Proper tools for the job.......:icon_wink

no IJ its not a cletus pcv system..........Im NA-T so I had to block off the TB port and run the PCV ports out of the valve covers into the inlet pipe going to the turbo to prevent me from smoking like a damn chimney. Thats how its run, I just got a catch can also for the car but thats NOT installed yet.

Sounds to me like you're not getting enough vacuum from the inlet pipe going to the turbo. I'd hazard a guess and say that's your problem right there ;).

The majority of the vacuum needed comes from that TB port that you stated you capped off.

So it IS a Cletus PCV system..... :nono:

You're relying on the Vacc created by the Aircleaner restriction to Turbo as the only + source of crankcase evacuation, your motor probably has more blowby than can be handled with the small ID pipes/hoses used and you're getting + crankcase pressure which has found it's easiest escape route.

A Catchcan isn't going to make any difference may as well leave it in it's box.

Yeah, it's necked down in there. I forget the size but it's nowhere near as big as the external port. It serves a purpose under boost too. I'd explain it but I'm sick of trying to teach people how this simple PCV design works. Hell, most still think PCV exists for combustion blowby.

Never had problems in the old days huh. Imagine that ;)
