First post :nono:

Recently picked up a 1991 Toyota Soarer with a 1jzgte (5speed). Awesome car, im a happy new owner. Not my first toyota, but my first gas toyota engine. I also own a 1992 Toyota Hilux Surf.

When i picked up the car i noticed it was over filled with oil. I was planning on changing the oil anyways, but was still a little worried about the previous owner. Dropped the oil, filled it up with 4.8 liters. Started it to fill the oil filter and then i let it sit for a few minutes. The oil level is WAY over full, right where the part number of the dip stick starts. Here is a crappy cellphone picture :

That looks like its almost a liter to full. I cant see the engine taking 3.8 liters. That would be ridiculous. The oil level right now is at what it was before i drained it (what the previous owner had it at)

Im just confused why its so high up on the dip stick. According to what i found online its the correct dip stick : 15301-88401 .

Heres a picture of the car

Here is a picture of what will be going onto it in a few days after the fenders get rolled. (wheel placed beside the vehicle )

maybe try checking it when it is dead cold, on a level surface.

I don't think it is an issue to be a little over-filled, most people run 1 quart (or liter) over the full mark for assurance reasons.

i think 4.8 liters is the correct amount. you sure that is the correct dipstick? mine looks different (but it's not from a soarer, so that might be it)

Yes, i also checked it after it has been sitting for 3 days on a perfectly flat garage floor.

according to this, i do have the correct dipstick also.

This just really confuses me. Never had this problem in the past 10 cars i have owned. The engine is 100% stock other then a air filter. No oil coolers, nothing.

You said that you were filling the oil filter after you poured 4.8L into the pan? If you put an empty filter on there some of that oil level in the pan will disappear too. Or are you considering the oil you put in the filter as part of the 4.8L?

What does a 1jz require anyway?

Nah dont worry man. You know its there just judge your oil level by what you know. So right on might be a little low.

Nice wheels btw offset/width?

The are Fabulous Profounds. 9.5 inch in the front with a +30 offset and 10.5 inch in the back with a +30 offset. They fit awesome on the car.

Well i have it the other way around. It has always been fine, then i did an oil change and put my 4.8 of oil in and my stick said i had no oil...i was like wtf. So i drained the oil and check how much came out (4.7). So i put new oil back in and it did the same shit. No oil on the stick, I let it sit for a day and then checked it and it was not even halfway full on the stick. My oil presher gauge is good so i said F it. O ya i have a 1jz...i am runing 20-50 gtx oil. What oil u have in it and do you have an oil/p gauge.
