i took off my intercooler today and there was oil in the intercooler pipes. what could of caused this

This is normal to some extent. I believe its from the turbo. While its not necessarily a good thing, it can be normal
The intercooler just happens to be the lowest point in the system so it collects easily there. Have you had any issues with the dipstick getting pushed up? Check to make sure your PCV is hooked up correctly, otherwise it's usually a sign of worn rings.
I have a thin film of oil on my intercooler piping with a brand new rebuilt engine. Doesn't have a rebuilt Turbo but I have a feeling its mostly normal.

Leakdown test a new engine and cry till you realise this fact and accept it, NOT normal on a broken in engine, the PCV system should remove and Oil vapour it's what it's designed to do...
Well maybe its residual from the break in or the "seals" in the Turbo are going..

that's what I found in my IC after coming back home with the supra on the flatbed, massive rodknock and a BHG

Clean ALL your IC pipes along with your IC itself, you could fill them all up with diesel if you wanted but it'll leave a slight residue. If you wanted to go a step further, while the intake manifold is off the head, clean out all the old carbon and other gunk that has built up from sucking in oil vapors from the IC system.
Where did you get that headgasket was the issue? It CAN be, but it's more likely to be blowby past the rings (or messed up PCV system) or a bad turbo.

Yeah, you're more likely to push into a coolant passage than an oil passage. So by the time you have a BHG so bad to get to an oil passage, you're likely mixing oil and coolant...
