Hey guys, I have a question about oil coolers and trans cooler. What is the actual difference in them. I was looking into a derale transcooler over the oil cooler ( reason is price). Isn't true that many trans and oil coolers are the same? Any input would be nice, and I have searched, over 50 pages on SM and google.

I plan on make solid oil lines ( replacing factory rubber pieces) with brake line tubing from auto part stores. Good or bad? Trying not to go AN fittings route.(money)

I was under the impression that they both function the same.

One problem with brake line tubing is that it's not very big, you want something like 5/8"s line for oil lines.

It will work fine, ss braided lines just look better.
The problem with bigger brake lines, they tend to kink easier .
Just get a double flaring tool and go to town, tighten everything good when you’re done and post pic’s :aigo:

Oil or tranny cooler = same thing. I like the stacked plate type like the B&M...more durable/efficient.

If you use steel/aluminum tubing, go with at least 1/2".

Thanks guys. I've been looking into the torq flow ones or derale. Torqflow is cheaper and widely available. Derale make heavy duty ones, which seems a bit more suitable. Either way I see one or the other more efficient then the small factory one. I will post pictures and the process build. I will be matching oil line size (3/8) accordingly to the factory inlet and outlets.

PS... 5/8 is most common on heater hose assemblies. I'm assuming you meant 3/8. Thanks guys.

If you're keeping the factory filter head with it's pressure based bypass for the oil cooler circuit, a bigger cooler is not going to help as much as you think. Might want to look at this:

Restricting flow with 3/8" lines is not helping either. You might as well keep the factory set-up...what you plan on doing is not an upgrade. A lot of effort for little gain.

WOW thanks guys. I needed to look alot closer to what I was doing. I will be doing the single circuit way on the sticky. Thanks alot guys. I will run factory until I break it in now. Seems to be very well in depth and I will need to gather all the parts first.
