I mounted my oil cooler where the condensor used to be, I wonder where else I could mount it.

I have everything for my full flow oil system. Albiet, I'm missing the union bolt for the block. I can't find one long enought. Search has yield vague response with many dead ends.

I was also told that the stock 1J cooler was enough by a well respected member.

Either, but the one with the fan will be very difficult to fit. You'll have to see if you have the room to accommodate the thickness. You also want "some" space between it and the rad...you don't want the rad and cooler to touch. Make sure you use a thermostat.

BTW - That SF thread was full of the usual BS you see over there...oil can be over cooled. ;)

tlo - you can mount the cooler behind the drivers side fog light, but it will need a fan on it like the 2nd link Zazzn posted above. It can't be a large though. That B&M cooler is nice...the fan is switched ot come on at 160 deg F iirc.

eric i got the b&M 70266 to fit under the driver headlight behind the bumper support with an-10 line's feeding it.

i used the earls thermostat bolted to the block with a ford(3/4-16)union bolt after i removed all the stock crap.it's easier to get the filter off,but most likely won't fit if your running a/c.

This is how I did mine, the rubber isolators are early RX7 oil cooler mounts.

I didn't notice the rubber isolators, you wouldn't have any other pictures. Perhaps my Screen is too dark to notice black on black.

Anyhow, from the way you mounted your Oil cooler and IC, did you cut the lower section of your hood latch?

Thanks,

Matt-

I was thinking the same thing, as you but was thinking just attaching it behind the IC infront of the rad.

you definitely need a front mount oil cooler if you are road racing, the stock exchanges are worthless for anything other than granny driving

Thanks for the replies Jdub, I posted on SF and got very diff responses saying that he B&M's suck and that permacool was the way to go... I've asked for more detail why he said that and if he was just blerting out some garbage.

So you guys never heard of people nuking engines form a oil cooler? (not leaking)

The cooler's i mentioned above are at summit, what do you chaps think? is it big enough too small or just right?

I was planning to run -10 clampless house for the cooler lines.

Do you think the stock coolant cooler is any good? I have PWR rad with 2 zirgo fans a 14 and 8 "... Things really don't get toasty but I was thinking the cooler was good insurance for when I do autox and lapping days. (not super often) but on ocasion.

Never once heard of anyone blowing an engine due to an oil cooler. Lower pressure yes, but this equals more flow, consistant oil temps, and reliability.

Matt: Yes I trimmed the lower section of the Latch plate.

The Isolators I use are about 16mm thick and have a male m6 thread on each side, Mazda do Large and small mounts the large ones are for their Radiators the small for the Oil coolers.
(think tiny 86.5 engine mount) sorry I don't have a pic.

I just did mine not too long ago, best upgrade I ever did to my car, ever. I used a stock fc3s oem oil cooler and a summitt racing oil filter relocation system. Everything was so cheap, the most expensive things in the project were the fittings and the lines. The stock rx7 oil cooler has a thermostatic bypass built-in. The oil cooler provided next to no loss in psi and cools my car so well that the car barely turns on the electric fans at idle. When ever I run the car hard and redline the shit out of it just drifting in an open parking lot, the temps stay in check and the oil doesnt go past 215 deg. F. The stock rx7 oil cooler is HUGE! I mounted it behind my intercooler still with a condensor in the car with running A/C.
