I'm hoping that it will get easier with practice and a cleaner engine! One of the reasons I hate oil leaks and try to fix them ASAP.

I remember my 85 300zx Turbo being even more a PITA. You would have to twist your arm 3 different ways just to get to it. Once it got loose and started leaking oil on your arm you could not pull it out with out dislocating your shoulder.

Now my 75 280z is easy!!! Just bend over and grab it with two hands and twist off from the top.

i agree, 7MGTE is very simple to get out and barely creates any mess for me. Just make sure you have the oil drained and be careful to keep the filter upright as you lower it...If the car is still really hot it is more difficult but you can let it sit and cool down after the oil has been drained.

To the OP I do remember guys on SF with MK4's saying the stock location by the intake manifold was a bitch to get at, maybe the 1g has a similar mounting place

Suckas.

I do all my oil changes on a lift.

Step 1: Drive car on lift.
Step 2: Raise lift.
Step 3: Reach up, loosen oil filter.
Step 4: Win at Life.

I changed the oil for the 1G yesterday. I was all excited because I found a local dealer that sells Wix filters for not tonnes of dollars (in my small town of 5000 that surprised me). Drain the oil no problem, dig out my shiny new Wix and get psyched to put it in....

DAMN TO THE DEPTHS THE HALF-WIT BRAIN-DEAD F^*KTARD that decided the oil filter on the 1G-GTEU needs to be nestled between the wheelwell and intake mani, but directly above a motor mount!:3d_frown: It's on the left side of the engine bay, but I have to slide under from the right, and my elbows need three hinges in them to reach the damn thing (hardlines in the way too).

To boot, it's horizontally mounted, so it leaks when I unscrew it, and all the oil runs down my arm and INTO MY FREAKIN' ARMPITS!! And to add insult to injury, you have to pour new oil into the block at the back of the motor, with not much room because the hood is in the way.

Tell me, do you JZ and 7M guys have this same problem with the filter location?

Pay your girlfriend to do it. Small hands and wrists FTW in this situation ;)

Tell her to wear an old t-shirt. And tell her the oil will wash out of her hair. After about two washings.

Tell her to wear an old t-shirt and to get directly under the filter so it saturates the front. And tell her the oil will wash out of her hair. After about two washings.

Fixed that for you ;)

try changing bus oil. 10 gal pan with two oil filters holding 2 gal per filter and with a drain plug on the oil pan that is pointed at a 45 degree angle that sometimes strips without a 6pt 1/16 socket.

best time to change it is when its warm, warm oil on a bus is a few hundred degrees. so laying on your back watching this shit come at you lol is a mutha%&&%&.

then again the late 90s early 00s camrys had those stupid oil filters pointed up...wtf on that!
