Oil Burn - What could possibly be the problem?

Okay, so I'm just about ready to throw in the towel. My car is burning oil at somewhat random intervals, more at idle and decel than other times, but I can't be totally sure. Here's the kicker - the engine was rebuilt no more than 2,000 miles ago, and a brand-spanking-rebuilt CT-26 (this is the 3rd turbo rebuild, too) was put on no more than 200 miles ago.

I have NO IDEA what could be causing an oil burn, is there something I'm missing? The Valve Seals, Piston rings, turbo seals, have all been replaced VERY recently and I have receipts from each time work was done, it's starting to cost a fortune! Should I expect this sort of behavior with aftermarket pistons? Is there a part of the engine that could cause an oil burn than I'm missing?

How much oil are you burning? A new engine burns more oil than a broken in engine. A well worn engine burns more oil than a not so worn engine.

All four stroke engines burn oil.

I was just about to ask that. Make sure it is working properly and you have no vac leaks in the system.

Check your PCV take the lines off going to the ic and see if there is any signs of oil. that way you can start to get a idea where the oil might be at. The lower ic pipe that goes in the bottom of the ic is the best to check.

It's smoking quite obviously, no leaks.

I did make a discovery though, talking to my mechanic, the car had a clogged intake right after the rebuild, and was running very rich for the first bit of its life. He said that since there was too much fuel, in all likelihood, the rings didn't seat and glazed the walls.

So the good news - my mechanic, Jim Hall of Hall Motorsports (used to make some stuff, now he just mostly does Fbody work). Said he'll pick up the car, pull the engine, hone and re-ring it, all for free. Now that's service!

Wow that sounds like a hell of a mechanic. Also, you might want to check the valve guide clearance while you have everything apart again, because even if you have new valve seals, if the guides are worn youre still going to be burning oil.

He didn't specifically say that, but that's the assumption I made when he offered to re-ring it.

I'm not going to challenge him on it though, I want my re-rebuilt engine! :evil2:
