About the BPV venting issue...
The engine breathes through the ISC at idle. All bov's open it idle, that's how they vent, vaccum in the manifold opens them.
The reason it doesn't matter is that there is no airflow in the pipes at idle.
If the valve is an old pos, it will stay open once the throttle plate is cracked, and then you run into injesting unmetered, unfiltred air, which is bad.
Solution, fix the valve...
