same issues as their body kit for the MKIV... it's too cheap to be a quality product, not to mention it looks like it's a sticker on top of fiberglass that isn't hand laid but laid with a chop gun...

how can you have carbon-kevlar?

kevlar is a polymer... as in, plastic. do they weave brittle carbon fibers with the flexy kevlar fibers???

i dont know why people dont make Kevlar hoods for cars. its Lighter than Fiberglass and Cheaper than Carbon-fiber... not to mention, bullet-resistant! AND, since its a polymer, you can get it in MANY different colors besides Black.

i would buy a Kevlar hood in a heartbeat over CF any day of the weak!

kevlar is a synthetic fiber, so id say they just weave it all together. i'd think that regular carbon fiber hoods have kevlar woven in to give them a little give, like you said. although im probably completely wrong :)

why don't we make spider silk hoods lol

possibly... but ive never heard anyone mention integrated kevlar into a true CF hood. with enough layers and varying the angles of the intersecting weaves, you can create CF panels of widely varying resiliance. you can make something very rigid and brittle or you can make it floppy and flexible. the mechanical engineering teams at universities learn about this in "materials" classes and test strengths of individual components and how they interact by changing the angle of the weave intersections, layers, epoxies and such. its very cool stuff.

some times, companies lay a single layer of CF sheet into the mold and then apply fiberglass behind it to make the pieces more affordable.

Um yea, thats not woven at all, its a cheap, REAL CHEAP sticker, Im sorry, 2 Stickers next to each other!! And the weave looking stuff around the latch is a stick on you can buy most parts store.

for those wondering about carbon and kevlar together, like clip said, they are both fibres, and they can be interwoven and overlapped to gain the desired part properties (impact/tensile/compressive/etc) when combined with a specific resin.

didnt carbonfibre f/x make carbon/kevlar armrests?

He also made carbon kevlar hoods. I have one of them on my car, so does Polobai. The hood for sale on ebay does not compare to the craftsmanship and beauty of one of Duane's hoods.

I dont know if they can be weaved together but I was watching one of those custom car shows one time and the guy would put kevlar patches in between the layers of carbon fiber to make it stronger. I think he was making audio boxes though.

Well alot of people don't know but when you buy carbon fiber there is different weaves.

Theres:

Carbon/Carbon: which is carbon fiber woven with carbon fiber.. which is what is used in most exterior parts

Carbon/Kevlar: which is a carbon fiber woven with a Kevlar fiber which had strength but it still bendable... normally not used on the finished exterior due to the Kevlar having a yellow color

Carbon/fiber(can't remember if is glass or some other fiber): this when you see the color carbon. Where the carbon has a hue to it, normally used in interior parts... not seen as much anymore

There maybe even more, but never used or seen any others.

Now days most places have started using a honeycomb between two layers of carbon. The reason for doing this is that carbon fiber has great strength but is bendable, but not stretchable. So what happen is the honey comb goes between the two layers, as the first layer tries to bend. The honey comb transfer that pressure to the bottom layer which has to stretch(which it can't) therefore the part doesn't bend. The problem comes if you break the honeycomb.

As for that hood... It looks as if it a fiberglass hood with cheap carbon pre-made sheets over top, which is where there is a semi cause pre-made sheets are not big enough to cover car parts.

Well I hope that was useful and knowledgeable to someone....lol

Judging just by the pics, it doesn't look like a solid hood. I wouldn't' put that on my car.

yes, I also made many other parts for other cars. I made carbon kevlar hoods, arm rests, block off plates, and more for the MKIII (The carbon and kevlar are woven together.) The kevlar can also come in a variety of colors. My pricing was 665US dollars.

Well, knowledgeable if the information given was correct. Please don't just guess on how the hoods or parts would be made. As for sheets of carbon on top of a hood? I think you should look at the tooling/molding process. Hoods are made nothing like what you think. (this could be some homework for you ;))
