Degreeing the cams. Pretty sure I remember throwing an NA intake camshaft into the engine. Would be nice to have a known turbo cam to compare this against ;)

Intake Camshaft:
SAE (0.006"-0.006") Duration = 278º
Duration (0.050"-0.050") = 160º
Maximum lift on the lobe = 2.875"

Exhaust Camshaft:
SAE (0.006"-0.006") Duration = 279º
Duration (0.050"-0.050") = 156º
Maximum lift on the lobe = 2.965"

No, that's no misprint on the .050" duration of the exhaust camshaft. Talk about a damn slow ramp! I checked 3 separate lobes, and came out the same every time. Has anyone else degreed their exhaust cam to confirm/refute these findings?

Nothing? Well, I'm thinking I'm going to remeasure both sides this morning. After all, being in the garage all night until 4am could lead to mistakes ;)

Realized I measured the wrong way on the intake camshaft - it's actually moving through 160 degrees of movement, .050" upramp to .050" downramp.

Either way, stock, these are some puny ass camshafts!

They start to open really nicely (the SAE duration) but the have no 'meat' to them (the .050" lift)

that will most likly give you more top end and kill truq

you can fix this witht he intake cam but useing the top end will now suffer it kidna what do you want your power band to be like when you play wiht cams

I have found playing around with my stock gears that if i retarded exh ( counter clockwise ) 1 tooth it felt like it had 20 more ponys threw out rpm range..

according to UR (unorthodox racing) the base settings for adjustables is retard the exhaust 2-3 and advance the intake 1-2.

but whats funny is they say the EXACT same thing for the eclipse... which just shows to me that a DOHC turbo engine, retard the exhaust, and advance the intake.

just from what i read though, i've always been interested in what others run on there cam gears.

WTF?

Seriously there is NO "base setting"..... :aigo:

It's different for every single motor that's why you get a timing tag with new cams and you then degree to the Tag as a baseline.

If you don't have a 0 point how do you know what your "base setting" is on the motor.

Ask J about generalising on timing settings between different engine combinations.

hey... thats what UR said... i LOL'ed at it too...

but theres always something to be head, but i believe another problem with adjust the OEM cams from the O O setting makes them less smog friendly... but i could be wrong.

Seriously, I'd like to verify my measurements, first. As in, against someone else's measurements ;)

If these are correct, then damn. I would consider a 'mild' camshaft set for a 3.0L motor to be in the 210/212 @ .050" lift, with .310" lift. That is a huge duration difference.

Could be that Toyota designed them with very small cams, to ensure no dilution due to overlap.
