Ok, so it hit me.
We have dumb fucking idiots who are writing todays news.
We have dumb fucking idiots who continue to "pass" on this great wealth of knowledge.
All the while most of it is complete BS because this guy "heard" it from that guy, and that guy's great aunt Suzy heard it from her grilfriend, and her girl friend found out it was all true at the local bar from Tommy Hillbilly.
SERIOUSLY PEOPLE!
When is the rumor mill going to end?
As Ive preached before, and Im going to preach again - IF YOU DON'T KNOW, DON'T SPREAD/PREACH/POST/WRITE ABOUT THE FUCKING SUBJECT.

Read said article:

The Associated Press Douchebag Writer Chris Blank said:

Ok so let me get this straight. Alcohol, specifically grain alcohol, is now harder to put out than a gasolene fire?

Have you ever worked with Methanol or Ethanol Mr. Blank?

I highly doubt it you hose nozzle.

This shit of writing "facts" about something that you have NFI about drives me nuts! (As if you couldn't tell.)

Why am I fired up about this particular instance?

Im "retired" from the Indy Racing Leauge of 4+ years with the fuels division.

READ - I USED TO TEST, FUEL, AND WORK ON INDY CARS AND THE FUELING SYSTEMS AND METHANOL FOR 4 YEARS.

What does the Indy Racing League and any other MILLION DOLLAR sanctioning body have to put out alcohol based fires?

WATER.

No sissy ass foam thats going to cost tax payers tons of hard earned money.

No giant media hype on why your newly found E85 car is going to bust into instant flames down the road for no reason - and then they can't put you out.

"Sorry we can't put you out. We don't have any foam."

No stupid ass over regulated EPA bunny fluffy ass certified save the giraffes equipment.

JUST WATER. WATER WATER WATER WATER AND MORE WATER.

IT WORKS. IVE BEEN ON FIRE. WATER PUTS OUT ALCOHOL FIRES.

And that folks, is the rest of the story.

/rant.

lol, alcohol fires are fun!

I once lit a shot glass full of grain alcohol on fire just to watch the pretty blue flame. Now it sat on the table burning for a few minutes before one of my drunken friends bet $20 for my husband to drink the shot while it was lit. No one comprehended the amount of time that had passed since the alcohol had been on fire, nore realized how HOT the glass would be.

Hubby accepted the bet, and as soon as he lifted the flaming alcohol glass, it burned him. He dropped the glass on the table, it shattered, spreading the pretty blue flame and teh rest of the alcohol all over the table.

Everyone ROFL'd as my kitchen tables surface was on fire, until I went and got a blanket to put it out. Nothing was damaged, only the alcohol burned. It was a good time. I didn't even think about using water on the table though, the blanket seemed to be the smarter decision even in my inebriated state.

Solubility of octane in water = immiscible, with a density lower than water. Ergo foam is a very good idea.

Solubility of ethanol and methanol in water = infinite, therefore dilute with water until no longer flammable.

So that's fact, but as I understand the way 'safety' is viewed, there is virtually a legal obligation to use the "latest technology". I guess sometimes it doesn't matter if the good old fashioned way works better...
