I have a mk3 supra that I love - drove it everyone until it died on June 9, 2007 b/c of a snapp'd rod. I bought a used engine from SF member, and was told it only had 71k original miles on it. To make a long story short, I got the engine - the compression numbers came out totally wrong - had the head pulled - there were cracks in it - the bottom end - there were bent rods and alot of scoring.

So, I am torn. I dont know if I want to sell the chassis (white targa original body - barely had 100k on it) and all goodies...or throw another engine in there.
What do you guys think?

^^^ yeah. It's not the car's fault that you got ripped off by a jerk, and it sounds like there is no way you would consider selling or parting it out if he hadn't misrepresented the sale.

Did you buy locally? Do you have any recourse, or did you at least post up the experience on SF? Seems to me he really needs to own up to this.

Dont fix it. Sell it ot me.... :naughty:

FWIW: You never ever buy an engine without inspecting it on site, unless it's from an actual place of business with a warranty/gurantee. Even then, you must still check it yourself before handing over the cash. I was screwed by someone VERY VERY well known a few years ago on a turbo engine that was bad when he said it was perfect ready to go in. Turns out a valve was broken and the broken piece was all jammed into the piston. Had to do a total rebuiled and replaces 2 pistons.

Have them check the block to se if it can be salvaged, score a lot of the times can be bored out as long as everything else checks out, then pick up a head. I'd fix it sounds like the rest of the car is OK. Make her bigger and better.

if you've got the funds, I'd say just go with another engine. It all depends on what's going on and your goals for the car whether you go 1JZ or 7m

I'm looking at the sobering fact that after I bought a bum engine, I won't have the finances to put my car on the road/ fix it etc for quite a while, and it's already at the shop:(
