So I have this pretty sweet EFI book and I have been reading a few pages every other night. This particular part was on the different types of sensors critical to engine management.
Turns out our Supra's and a lot of Lexus vehicles do not use what is called a MAF. It is actually called a K-V sensor. Karman-Vortex.
It operates by putting a object that obstructs the airflow in the path of the air. Using a LED, photo receptor and a small mirror, it measures the turbulence which delivers a 'off-digital' signal frequency.
They are stated to be generally better as they are more responsive and less restrictive.
Sweet!
The book specifically stated 3rd gen Supra's and a lot of LExus vehicles have used them as well as some Mitsubishis. Book was written in 03.
