Not another Idle thread... well maybe..

I've been looking at plenty of threads that discuss Idle, and what can cause a rough or loping idle. Unfortunately, non seem to quite match what is happening to me.

My problems started when the I/C piping from the intake manifold going to the I/C, aka the "3000" piping, would blow off of it's coupler. Just enough to have air escape, but not disconnect completely when in boost. For obvious reasons this would cause problems, so I secured the piping and all seemed well. However, a couple days later when going into neutral at a red light, the idle dropped under 500rpm, and then started bouncing up and down around 500. So in my research I’ve heard everything from adjusting the BOV to faulty ISCV's. So I decided to set my BOV a little softer, which also helped. But yet again, it still has problems to the point where the idle will drop dangerously low, or even stall. This only happens on occasion though, other times the revs will slowly drop to a perfect idle, and have no problems, but other times it will drop all the way down and dance around 500, or even stall. I'm fairly confused by how inconsistent this occurrence is. So any ideas or suggestions are welcomed with open arms!

PS. Would converting the BOV into a recirc help my problem?

BTW, the only modifications that I have performed between when I did not have the idle problem, and when I have is installing new NGK iridium spark plugs.

Thank you in advance!

If your BOV is vented to atmosphere, and your driving then suddenly switch to neutral and let go of the gas
yes your idle will drop below normal and bounce, this is just one of the bad things about venting to atmosphere for that
swoosh sound and not having a full standalone....

Recirculating your bov will fix this problem or if thats not the main culprit, it will definetly help majority of it.

If your TPS/ISCV is faulty or going bad you can check 1 of them by popping your hood, having a friend stand by your motor,
Start your car up and then turn it off. Ask him if he hears a click, or you can also have him start and you listen vice versa lol,
i always like to do everything myself.

Look for some local supra guys around you that might have an extra, ISCV/TPS, takes 5-10mins to switch them out and rule out those
2 things.

Have you checked for codes via TSRM?

I'm starting to hate that swoosh noise anyways! I'll Recirculate it within the next couple days and hopefully that will be a done deal.

Also, when the engine turns off there is a few almost like tik-tok noises. But no singular click. So I am unsure if that is what you meant or not..

Thanks again for your insight.

Hmm im not sure about the multliple ticks, as mine and various other supras only has 1 unique tick which is the
valve.

But yea recirc that bov and if that doesn't fix the problem then report back here and we will go onto some more ideas.

Ok, and yeah when the turbo timer shuts off the engine, there are 3 distinct tik-toks.

Tomorrow I will have the recirc complete, ill get back to you then.

If the clicking is coming from the ISCV, after shutdown, its normal. Thats one of the TSRM checks for it.

So basically I've been looking for hosing to fit over the recirc nipple and connect to the stock recirc nipple on the air intake for the last couple of days. I have found nothing that is the right size, or if it is it wont be able to handle either pressure or heat. So i know this sounds like a fail, but what would you guys recommend for the hosing?

Well lol, measure that hole, Goto lowes/home depot, go into the plumbing section and find you a little piece of pipe of some sort that is just a tad tad bigger than your intake hole
and cut it to how you want it, bam, you got yourself a nipple! Just make sure you clamp it cause most likely that piece of pipe wont have a little lip on the end like the orig.

EDIT: Ok i think i read your thing wrong, DOH.

New opinion lol: You dont need some extreme hosing for that lol, not a ton of pressure goes through that nor do the tempature
go to high amounts. simple coolant hoses from your local autozone/advance auto parts store work fine.

Haha. Thanks, for both of those comments :p

But yeah I was under the impression that it needed to be very heat resistant, seeing as it is going right past the head, the turbo, and an I/C pipe. Good to know though, thanks I6
