haha. it was weird! usually people are like: "eh, that thing's a piece, and that guy is an asshole"

haha. it was nice though! people tend to take my sense of humor the wrong way, when infact, i'm just trying to have a good time and make people laugh!

bah, friends are over rated. ;) :p

BTW Justin, I'll be on "medical leave" from UTI for the next 6 weeks while I play race mechanic, so I'll probably have some free time coming up. If say you wanted to bring that nice jack you've got I gotta get my diff out for rebuild... I think.

No sadly I did all the ricing, and ya I had a change of heart. It was stock when I got it, 100% stock infact.

I did ALOT more than swap a different motor in...
(clutch, altenator, starter, radiator, valve cover gaskets, tune up stuff...)

Yea, I was (at this point I'm considering it "was" but my leaving isn't 100% sure yet) going there.

All I can say is that it is 90% bullshit. I was disappointed from day one and I can probably say someone like you would feel the same way. Every kid there is kind of like someone who barely made it through HS simply because they didn't understand anything. You know, kid's who's parents couldn't figure out anything they were intelligent enough to do so they sent them to mechanic school. xarewhyayen (I think thats how you spell it, lol) goes there as well and he likes it so I suppose our opinions differ slightly.

But, I mean, when instructors tell you things like turbo gasoline cars don't use vacuum brake boosters because they don't have enough vac to run one, I get pretty fed up. All of the instructors I had seemed to consider anything with an OHC or an ECU "the new stuff". So, sorry to be so negative about it but when I think about it, all they did was go over stuff I knew and teach kids who didn't know false/useless/old information.

So I'm kind of in the process of dropping out, so I can try and become a professional race mechanic (the new job). UTI completely turned me off to working in a repair shop of any kind, and so far in my trial time (to see if I'm up to the task) I love working on a race team so hopefully it will work out.

dammit! not what i wanted to hear! i kindof figured that's how it'd be though... the thing is, i think i know a decent amount about the "new stuff" (haha) and the "old stuff"- i've worked on, and owned/tuned cars with carbeurators before. it's pretty simple to say the least.

but here's the thing- noplace will want to hire me if i don't have a certificate saying i know what i know. if i walk into a shop and say: hey, i can do this and that, they'll be like- ok, where's your documentation proving it?

i don't want to work in a repair shop. i want to work in custom fabrication- good quality work. tuning street cars, etc... basically what i'm doing to my supra. good, tasteful modifications.

a buddy of mine is a mechanic at a local garage, and we've been talking about trying to open a shop. (basic mechanics, engine swaps, etc..) it would be performance and maintenance oriented. i don't know.

i gotta go back to school though... i miss it!

thanks for the info!

I'm sure you would be able to breeze through it pretty much, if you did want to show you know what you do and pick up a few things along the way. It's not difficult to do very well grade wise there, but is it worth that much money to do it... eh, I don't know.

The whole program is very oriented around their dealership programs though, so everything they talk about will be based on the assumption that you are there because you want to work at a dealership.
